PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

This position is accountable for the following end results:

  • Deliver all objectives safely and achieve 100% compliance with safety requirements.

  • Develop or review process controls execution strategies in conjunction with overall project development team during the bid phase.

  • Produce or review process controls project scope of hours and cost estimates.

  • Participate in P&ID development, operability and hazard reviews and define control systems reliability, operability and availability plans as required.

  • Develop or review technical risk matrix, support reliability/availability studies, contribute to risk mitigation and project execution plans.

  • Develop or review control equipment functional requirement and detailed design specifications including instruments, control valves, analytical analytical equipment, DCS equipment, SIS equipment and other Process Controls deliverables with high quality and within budgeted timeline.

  • Develop & review control system designs, architecture, programming & integration specifications and plans.

  • Execute or support SIL assessments and verifications in line with functional safety requirements described within IEC61508 and 61511.

  • Support product development activities where the goal will be increasing competitiveness by reducing installed capital cost or optimizing the project engineering hours within the Process Controls offers.

  • Participate in implementation and improvement of work processes within the discipline. Direct and coach younger engineers in the group.

Domestic and international travel to other Air Products facilities, customer locations and plant sites is estimated to be up to 10-15% of the time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely-related field with at least 20 years of applicable work experience.

  • Experience developing control applications with Siemens PCS7 and Step7.

  • Experience with other controls platforms will be considered.

  • Experience in Functional safety applications is a plus.

  • Good working knowledge on SPI (In-tools) is a plus.

  • Experience in Control and Instrumentation applications.

  • Demonstrable technical competence, effective communication, and be a self-motivated team player with a willingness and track record to accept and manage responsibility.

  • Ability to provide technical direction and coach less experienced engineers.

  • Ability to work under pressure and be comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Ability to communicate across diverse cultures on complex technical issues.

  • Experience of project execution from concept, through Basic and Detailed Design is highly desirable.

  • Experience in Green Hydrogen, Ammonia and Electrolyzer systems would be beneficial.

In addition, knowledge / skills / experience in any of the following areas will be a strong added advantage:

  • Knowledge and working experience of various analytical techniques (Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Infrared & Ultraviolet Spectroscopy) and Gas Detectors.

  • Analyzer communication/transmission protocol and networking consideration for interface to Distributed Control Systems (DCS).

  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills in the field of analyzers.

  • Cyber Security implementation as it relates to Industrial Control Systems.
