Description

The OR Control Desk Clerk will perform clerical duties for the Operating Room Control Desk which will include to answer phones and call patients. Will
also organize the control desk area (schedules, forms, logs and other important papers) and schedule "add-on patients". The Clerk will assemble
surgical patient charts, distribute all collected surgical paperwork in an organized and accurate manner to the appropriate people. Will perform any
additional tasks which ensure efficient operation of the OR Control Desk.

Qualifications Minimum Education
Associate's Degree (Preferred)
High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
2 years At least 2 years of related experience. One year of patient registration required. Training will be provided.

Required Skills/Knowledge
Introductory computer knowledge and proficiency required.
Excellent organizational and communications skills required.
Ability to move quickly to respond to specified emergency situations.
Must have good interpersonal skills.
Customer oriented.
Requires knowledge in medical terminology.
Knowledge of hospital and OR scheduling software desired.
Attention to detail is required.
Use of general office equipment is required.

Functional Accountabilities
Communication
  • Greet healthcare staff and visitors in a friendly , approachable manner .
  • Provide information in a helpful, collegial and/or caring manner and follow-up on requests for information as needed.
  • Communicate effectively among all disciplines and contribute to problem solving issues at the control desk effectively and collaboratively .
  • Communicate concerns or issues to the Coordinator, Charge Nurse, Anesthesia in Charge or Manager as needed; be attentive to staff in the Control Desk and answer questions cordially and promptly.
Clerical Responsibilities
  • Answer telephone calls in a professional manner and with a consumer oriented approach.
  • Relay information and messages in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Check all SPC's received for accuracy and completion before accepting and scan into the EMR
  • Schedule all same day add-on cases, and cases scheduled for the next day, received after 3 p.m. using Surg Case Manager; schedule
  • Create accounts as needed to associate to add-on cases using quick registration function and notify the surgical coordinator that an add-on account has been created
  • Cancel, modify, and shuffle cases as directed by the Charge Nurse and/or Hall monitor efficiently .
  • Coordinate patient transfers from the floor to the OR with the Unit Nurse.
  • Update the tracking board to indicate when patient was "sent for"
  • Complete a Patient Pick-up Form for each patient.
  • H & P and Consents are checked for date and signature for patients coming from the floor.
  • Sort patient's charts and distribute to various areas as needed.
  • Reports are generated as requested both manually and by computer.
  • Mail is accurate and sent in a timely manner for clinical information.
  • Additional Clerical duties as requested.
Documents
  • Organize and stock forms as needed by using eWorks or through Coordinator.
  • Inform the Coordinator and/or Supervisor of any issues or concerns related to such document maintenance and/or accounts.
Orientation
  • Assist with orientation of Operating Room Clerks as delegated by the Supervisor.
  • Assist with orientation of newly hired OR staff to the Control Desk and its environment.
Problem Resolution
  • Address issues in a timely manner as appropriate; report to management team members for assistance.
