Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

We are in search of new talent in the following position...

Position: Senior Grant Accountant

The Senior Grant Accountant under general supervision, manages the financial intricacies of grants, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering effective collaboration with program staff. Prepare detailed financial reports for timely submission to grantors, actively participate in budget development and conduct thorough financial analyses to address variances. Maintain meticulous documentation, facilitate audit processes, and stay current with accounting standards and grant regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and minimum of three years' experience in grant accounting or related financial roles.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance and grant compliance.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suites, with advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Senior Grant Accountant Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the financial aspects of grants, public and private foundation funding from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with grant guidelines and regulations.
  2. Prepare grant proposal budgets, providing financial input and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  3. Collaborate with AVP of Finance, Director of Institutional Giving and Program Directors to develop grant budgets and monitor expenditures throughout the grant period.
  4. Conduct regular financial analysis to identify variances and address potential budgetary concerns.
  5. Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports to grantors, detailing fund utilization and performance against budget.
  6. Maintain organized grant documentation, including financial reports, invoices, and correspondence with grantors.
  7. Coordinate with internal and external auditors and grantors during the grant-related audits. Monitoring and supporting adherence to audit and grant requirements.
  8. Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and grant regulations to ensure compliance
  9. Manage other administrative functions, and special projects.
  10. Assist the Budget and Reporting Supervisor with the development and preparation of the annual calendar and fiscal year budgets for the related entities.
