Streck is seeking candidates for an R&D Associate Scientist 1 role to work with our scientific professionals on product enhancements and new product development. This position will primarily work within the scope of analytical chemistry and biochemistry performing chemical analytical testing using analytical instruments, including but not limited to HPLC, FT-IR, LC-MS, and GC as well as performing basic physicochemical characterization including but not limited to viscosity, surface tension, pH, osmolality, absorbance, and acid-base titration. Candidates with a bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry with at least 1 year of hands-on laboratory experience are preferred. Knowledge and hands-on experience with HPLC and LC-MS are preferred.

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for performing research and development experiments for projects and products in collaboration with others by using professional concepts in accordance with company objectives to help solving problems in creative and effective ways. This position will regularly exercise technical discretion in execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project goals. Projects will require full understanding of and ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines. May be involved in teams, which include participation from other sections and/or divisions.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  1. Support protocol development and execute associated quantitative analyses.
  2. Collect, record, analyze and interpret experimental data and discuss results and present of data with colleagues and management.
  3. Write reports and scientific summaries on projects as requested.
  4. Execute research and development in accordance with the FDA mandated design control requirements on projects that include process and product development, validation and verifications, and improvement opportunities for new and existing products.
  5. Participate in all applicable company, departmental, team, and project meetings.
  6. Assist in authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform instrument maintenance and preventative maintenance.
  7. Assist with the transfer of technology and knowledge into manufacturing, operations and quality control departments within the organization.
  8. Actively collaborate and participate with other department teams.
  9. Complete all other duties and projects as assigned.

Position Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline with a suggested 0-2 years of hands-on laboratory experience in an academic or industry setting. Laboratory work experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with peers and colleagues of differing backgrounds.
  • Ability to apply established principles, theories, and concepts in area of responsibility, together with a working knowledge of related disciplines.

Technical Competencies:

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate machines, equipment and instruments.
  • Knowledge of Streck Quality System Manual pertaining to process control and change.
  • Knowledge of FDA Design Control and QSR compliance requirements.
  • Ability to learn new software programs, techniques and processes as related to projects.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and analyze data.

Work Environment/Travel Demands:

Position requires exposure to inside environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Exposure to hazards: exposure to chemicals Exposure to atmospheric conditions.

Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 0%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions. Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding "safe travel" according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders.

Physical and Mental Demands:

Light work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, grasping and moving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, receiving detailed information through oral communication and making fine discriminations in sound. Also has an expectation to make quick decisions, read and write, speak publicly, interpret data, problem solve, and be organized based on the work presented in order to retain job knowledge.
