The HV test engineer will lead the testing efforts, both in-house and/or at external testing facilities related to BIL testing, HI-Pot testing, partial discharge testing, impulse testing, and any other necessary high voltage qualification testing for new design infrastructure-critical superconducting transmission lines. This individual will be responsible for identifying high voltage qualification requirements, and developing, implementing, and executing a test plan to achieve qualification and certification in accordance with various applicable standards, such as: NESC, CIGRE, etc.
You Are:
  • Hands-on by nature. You love to work with your hands doing projects-People often call you a tinkerer. Whether there is dirt literally under your fingernails or figuratively, you love to tackle projects.
  • A strong communicator keeps others informed as we work. You should understand and be a master of communicating with the team, whether it be digital or verbal.

  • Own the high voltage qualification and certification of new-design, first of a kind superconducting transmission lines.
  • Interface with and travel to third-party testing facilities to execute high-voltage test plans.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test strategies for component, subsystem, and system-level testing, including high-voltage electrical stress testing
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues in a range of test stands for a variety of purposes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop test cases and procedures covering a range of operating conditions and use cases.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement in product performance and reliability.
  • Prepare detailed test reports summarizing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for design enhancements or corrective actions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize testing processes, increase efficiency, and enhance the overall quality of transmission line system products.
Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of related professional experience
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with Electrical Design of power equipment and electrical systems
  • Proven experience in high voltage testing methodologies and equipment (e.g., AC/DC hipot testing, partial discharge testing).
  • Familiarity with relevant national and international electrical standards (e.g., IEEE, UL).
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety principles and practices (NFPA 70E).
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies).
  • Knowledge of high voltage components (e.g., transformers, cables, insulators).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience with High Voltage Electrical Design of power equipment and electrical systems
  • Experience working in or with high-voltage test facilities.
  • Experience qualifying and/or certifying first-of-a-kind hardware or technology for high-voltage applications.
  • Example industries include power transmission or generation utilities, testing laboratories,
  • Experience with data acquisition and analysis software (e.g., LabVIEW, MATLAB).
  • (Optional) Experience with building or modifying test fixtures for unique applications.
Expected Outcomes in 12 Months:
  • 3 months: Ramped up on the understanding of VEIR's high-voltage components & conductor. Reviewed and contributed to VEIR's qualification test plan development for high voltage testing.
  • 12 months: Established testing procedures and coordinated with necessary third-party testing facilities to begin qualifying VEIR's first-of-a-kind transmission line pilot system for high-voltage operation.
