Owned by our parent company, Hartree Partners, NE Renewable Power is made up of 7 Biomass electric generating power stations located in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. These stations play a crucial role in supplying locally sourced renewable energy to the people of New England.

Starting in April, Sprague will be bringing its over 150 years of energy operating experience to the operations of these facilities, and we're hiring a Maintenance Supervisor for the Westminster, MA location.

Job Summary / General Purpose:

The Maintenance Supervisor at our 18 MW wood-fired biomass power plant in Westminster, MA is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of plant facilities and equipment.

The Maintenance Supervisor manages the implementation of the plant's Maintenance Program and identifies those items which need improvement or additional work. The Maintenance Supervisor works with the plant operating staff to assure plant facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe and efficient operating condition at all times.

The Maintenance Supervisor operates from established and well-known procedures, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The Maintenance Supervisor encounters new and varied work situations, involving a high degree of complexity.

The Maintenance Supervisor must ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The Maintenance Supervisor must effectively communicate information to the Plant Manager, fellow supervisors, and subordinate plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvement. The Maintenance Supervisor must ensure duties are performed in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the activities of maintenance personnel in performing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Implement the plant's preventive and predictive maintenance program, including equipment failure records, and provide trend information to the Plant Manager.
  • Provide task lists and schedules for plant maintenance and contractor personnel for normal operating periods, planned outage periods, and forced outage situations.
  • Maintain the plant's Maintenance Manual and assure that vendor maintenance and repair manuals are properly filed and kept up to date.
  • Manages Building & Grounds maintenance activities and improvements.
  • Oversee the issuance of purchase requisitions, and purchase orders.
  • Sustain the morale and motivation of maintenance personnel and handle employee grievances as they arise.
  • Assist with the location, screening and hiring of maintenance personnel.
  • All employees have the responsibility to both the customer and their co-workers to do the job right the first time and to ensure the customer's needs are being met.
  • The Maintenance Supervisor supervises subordinate maintenance mechanics, l&E technicians and the Purchasing Assistant.
  • The Maintenance Supervisor cooperates with the Plant manager, Wood yard supervisor as needed in the daily operation of the plant.
  • Act as a team member with all employees; comply with all NE Renewable Power policies and procedures.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Plant Manager.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

  • 5+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • Power generation or continuous manufacturing experience highly desired.
  • Strong Mechanical and Equipment repairing ability strong rotating equipment experience.
  • and an ability to use personal computer based preventive and predictive maintenance tools desired.
  • At least 2 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory and administrative personnel required.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • Successful completion of applicable Pre-Employment drug testing and formal background checks.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and ensure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills.
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all of the business challenges.

Work Environment: Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.

  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.

  • Possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold conditions.

  • Ability to meet the highest attendance requirements.
