Weston Solution is seeking a Mid-Level Laboratory Mass Spectroscopy Chemist to support EPA's Environmental Response Team (ERT)/Response Engineering and Analytical Contract (REAC) Team. This team brings next-level advanced support and response to national and international incidents involving releases of oil and hazardous materials and at uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. This position involves the performance of laboratory testing at the EPA Edison, NJ, Laboratory in suburban New York City, and from mobile laboratories at emergency response sites nationwide.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS in Chemistry or related scientific discipline (minimum of 30 hrs. of Chemistry).
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with basic laboratory safety practices and QA/QC requirements.
  • Experience with EPA analytical methods (e.g., 8260, 8270 and TO series).
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple disciplines.
  • Ability to travel for emergency response (up to 25%) and to be on-call outside of regular work hours.
  • Authorized to work in the United States, with ability to obtain and maintain state and federal security clearances.
  • At least 21 years of age, with a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., wear a respirator, and to pass annual medical clearance physicals for field activities.
  • Ability to complete company-provided environmental training (e.g., 40- or 24-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification).

Expected Outcomes:

  • Perform Toxic Organic (TO-15) gas analysis and GC-MS/MS analysis of air samples.
  • Perform VOC analysis by Method TO-15 using Agilent GC/MS systems.
  • Review organic analytical data to ensure completeness and integrity of results.
  • Perform stationary and mobile air monitoring using the GC/MS/MS Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyzer (TAGA).
  • Perform vapor intrusion and indoor air sampling and analysis, including sub-slab port installation/sampling.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate instruments.
  • Prepare reagents, standards, and samples to be used in performing analyses.
  • Interpret and evaluate data, create an Electronic Date Package (EDP), and upload results to Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for a final report.
  • Input data into modeling software and EPA-approved dispersion models.
  • Perform SOP review, internal audits, and corrective action when needed.
  • Support general lab operations and functions, including monitoring and requesting supplies and materials to maintain lab supply inventory.
  • Assist with data validation.

Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range: $48,000 - $64,100 - $80,000
