Job description:
A Cost Accountant in the Food and Beverage Manufacturing industry plays a pivotal role in ensuring accurate and efficient cost accounting processes. This position requires a strong foundation in accounting principles, expertise in Excel modeling, and hands-on experience in building comprehensive cost accounting models, including time studies. Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly Accumatica or similar platforms, is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Accounting Analysis
    • Conduct detailed analysis of production costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead.
    • Monitor and analyze variances between actual costs and standard costs, providing insights into cost-saving opportunities.
    • Develop and maintain cost tracking reports to enhance visibility into cost trends.
    • Collaborate with production teams to understand and analyze cost implications of process changes.
Excel Modeling
    • Utilize advanced Excel skills to develop and maintain complex cost accounting models, incorporating categories such as raw material costs, labor costs, and overhead expenses.
    • Design and implement models to capture and analyze data related to production processes, identifying key cost drivers.
    • Implement scenario analysis within models to assess the financial impact of different production scenarios.
    • Provide training to team members on utilizing Excel tools for cost-related analyses.
Time Studies
    • Conduct time studies to measure and analyze the time required for various production activities.
    • Integrate time study data into cost models to enhance accuracy and granularity in cost allocation.
    • Regularly review and update time study methodologies to ensure relevance and accuracy.
    • Collaborate with operations teams to implement time-saving measures based on study outcomes.
Cost Estimation
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to estimate costs for new products or changes in production processes.
    • Provide accurate and timely cost estimates to support decision-making processes.
    • Develop cost estimation templates to streamline and standardize the estimation process.
    • Evaluate and adjust cost estimates based on market trends and supplier negotiations.
ERP System Management
    • Leverage expertise in Accumatica or similar ERP systems to manage and extract relevant cost data.
    • Collaborate with IT teams to optimize and customize ERP functionalities for cost accounting needs.
    • Conduct regular audits of ERP data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Provide training and support to end-users on ERP functionalities related to cost accounting.
Financial Reporting
    • Prepare regular financial reports related to cost accounting, highlighting key performance indicators and trends.
    • Communicate findings and recommendations to management for strategic decision-making.
    • Develop and maintain dashboards for real-time monitoring of cost-related metrics.
    • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts and budgets, specifically focusing on cost components.
Continuous Improvement
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements in cost accounting methodologies.
    • Implement best practices and standard operating procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Lead cross-functional teams in process improvement projects related to cost accounting.
    • Stay informed about industry best practices and technology trends to proactively suggest improvements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in cost accounting within the food and beverage manufacturing industry.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel modeling, including the ability to build complex financial models from scratch.
  • Experience conducting time studies and integrating time data into cost models.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably Accumatica or similar platforms.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
