Location:
New York, NYThe Research Director oversees the fact-checking and research process for an online brand. They are responsible for the integrity of the content, including online content, digital editions, special issues, books, and special projects. They work closely with editors, writers, and other publication colleagues. They consult with legal affairs editors to help vet stories for possible libel, defamation, and other legal concerns. In addition, they manage a junior team member who reports to them on a daily basis.
This position requires a person who understands how to balance priorities and juggle responsibilities. The title produces sophisticated and often highly sensitive content. It is vital that the content be thoroughly vetted, rigorously factual, and culturally sensitive.
The Research Director thrives in a collaborative and innovative environment. The applicant must be comfortable working on a wide range of subjects, including politics, fashion and beauty, culture, health, and current affairs. Should company priorities evolve, so too may this role.
Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes:
Has at least five years of experience as a fact-checker/researcher
Has a thorough understanding of journalism protocols and news-gathering procedures
Has knowledge of legal standards and practices for publishing
Excels in working with a variety of personalities and is a strong communicator
Creates solutions and takes full ownership of their responsibilities
Is well organized and detail-oriented
Has the capacity to manage pressure, tight deadlines, and multiple priorities
Is able to navigate deep data reporting
Is comfortable managing and training a junior partner

The expected base salary range for this position is from $80,000.00-$114,000.00 Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
