The Senior Legal Project Management (LPM) & Alternative Fee Arrangement (AFA) Analyst provides support for the firm's legal project management initiatives and analytical and design support towards optimal fee arrangements. This role supports initiatives that advance client relationships and optimal engagement economics for the on-going growth of the Firm. A hybrid work schedule is available for this position.

  • Assists in growing the team's internal LPM and AFA client base and the team's impact on the firm and its clients.
  • Represent LPM & AFA Support Services team on LPM and AFA engagement teams consisting of billing attorneys and other functional area representatives, at times independently leading project efforts.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in the structuring of matter plans and facilitates periodic internal and external communications on the status of engagements through their entire life cycle, while making recommendations for actions necessary to ensure internal and external satisfaction with engagement economics.
  • As a subject matter expert on AFAs and matter economics, collaborates with attorneys, staff, and clients in developing mutually agreeable fee arrangements for new and existing client engagements, while providing analysis and data for decision making purposes.
  • Efficiently create and reuse economic models best suited for circumstances to assess profitability for new business proposals in response to attorney and client requirements.
  • Create, track, and evaluate effectiveness of AFAs and budgets against firm investment, building a knowledge base that affords reaching workable solutions with increasing efficiency.
  • Develop ad hoc financial analyses and complex financial models.
  • Actively participate in the development and enhancement of existing and new analytical tools and data collection methodologies.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor for junior team members and other personnel the team collaborates with.
  • Assist billing attorneys with process mapping, design thinking and improved workflow efficiency in their practices, leveraging existing and new technologies.

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required. CMA/PMP/CPA/MBA or other certifications preferred.
  • Demonstrated consultative and customer service skills with the ability to develop relationships with individuals at all levels.
  • A persistent drive to efficiently solve problems for internal and external clients.
  • Keen ability to critically assess a given business situation for feasibility, financial impact and requirements.
  • Strong understanding of engagement economics.
  • Excellent PC skills with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including pivot tables, graphs, advanced formulas and simple queries.
  • Excellent financial analysis skills including database management and query techniques and financial modeling, with aptitude for understanding and manipulating data efficiently.
  • Advanced proficiency working with multi-dimensional databases and making complex reports readable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to plan and handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate feedback and revise analytics as needed.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:

  • Rochester, NY: $79,825 to $115,669
  • Buffalo, NY: $79,825 to $115,669
  • Manchester, NH: $79,825 to $115,669
  • Albany, NY: $83,816 to $121,452
  • Providence: $87,808 to $127,236
  • Chicago, IL: $91,799 to $133,019
  • Washington, DC: $95,790 to $138,803
  • Boston, MA: $95,790 to $138,803
  • Los Angeles, CA: $95,790 to $138,803
  • San Francisco, CA: $99,781 to $144,586
  • New York, NY: $99,781 to $144,586
  • Long Island, NY: $99,781 to $144,586

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
