Job Description

The role of Director, Prospect Development is an exciting opportunity for a mid-career professional to be a part of a dynamic and entrepreneurial team. The successful candidate will be a leader in the organization and be a part of planning for the next comprehensive campaign. The Director reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Advancement Services, supports approximately 10 gift officers, and is responsible for establishing or evolving processes for prospect development including moves management, pipeline development, prospect research, as well as data hygiene and reporting standards.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and oversee prospect and moves management practices, seeking to create a pipeline of donor gifts from annual, leadership, major, planned, and principal giving.
  • Evaluate and maintain healthy prospect portfolios for approximately 10 gift officers that align with assigned unit, region, affinity group, and/or campaign fundraising responsibilities, emphasizing discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship pipeline needs.
  • Oversee the utilization of prospect and proposal tracking information including data entry standards and reporting tools to effectively showcase prospect and proposal pipeline data.
  • Utilize a variety of third-party prospect research tools to conduct nuanced analysis in support of donor prospecting. Periodically evaluate ROI of technology and software vendors.
  • Develop, with IT, reports and dashboards necessary for individual gift officers and supervisors to track activity and ensure optimal portfolio and prospect pool management.
  • Establish prospect research profiles and briefing templates and processes.
  • Meet with gift officers and respective supervisor(s) to review prospect portfolio and moves management progress against established protocols and metrics.
  • Direct and coordinate proactive research activities, data appends, and data management strategies that support the prospect management and research function. Facilitates routine data screenings, collaborating with IT on various data enhancement projects.
  • Identify, research, analyze, and rate current and prospective donors and volunteers in support of alumni engagement, fundraising goals, and other division priorities. Conduct reactive prospect research identified by gift officers and update donor records as new data is identified.
  • Establish and document policies and procedures for prospect management and research. Participate and sometimes lead training opportunities for employees on prospect management policies and data entry requirements. Periodically audits process to ensure compliance.
  • Lead the management and ongoing enhancement of the prospect and donor pipeline, developing strategies for growth, and assessment of prospect readiness for campaign planning.
  • Monitor gift reports, news alerts, and other data sources to update alumni and donor records.
  • Apply predictive modeling concepts to support alumni and donor engagement strategies.
  • Supervise any direct report towards specific goals and objectives, and indirectly coach and mentor gift officers and support staff that are a part of the larger prospect management efforts.
  • Effectively and proactively communicate with colleagues verbally and in writing.
  • Provide guidance on a variety of Advancement policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Develop and achieve annual performance goals.
  • Review data and pulls reports to utilize for decision making.
  • Adhere to and understand the organization's prospect and portfolio management procedures, as well as the ethical guidelines of the profession as outlined by Apra.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Shift

40 hours per week. Additional hours may be needed during peak times.

Hybrid work schedule will be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Seven years' experience in non-profit or higher education preferred.
  • Database skills, preferably with a fundraising database and/or with data analysis and reporting focus.
  • Technical writing and training for client end-users.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Must be able to maintain data management standards including data confidentiality, CRM entry requirements, and accessing reporting tools.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive constituent and colleague relationships through constructive communication skills and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Effectively perform under pressure while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to use sound judgement and discretion and maintain confidentiality of data.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while also working as a member of the University Advancement team.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $65,776 - $85,000 Annual
Grade: GGS-12
