The Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) seeks to hire a Systems Engineer reporting to the
Infrastructure Manager. This position is responsible for managing a Windows-based environment in a
growing enterprise utilizing expert-level knowledge in the Microsoft Office 365 stack. The successful
candidate would have hands-on experience managing O365, Exchange Online, and Active Directory with
expertise in Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, Azure management, and SQL servers. In addition, the
incumbent will be responsible for implementing automated processes, developing standards and
designing/managing infrastructure, coordinating support with other IT principals, developing junior
staff, and acting as Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for the server and desktop environment.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create and maintain comprehensive server and network topology, equipment, and
    configuration documentation, including developing SOPs and ongoing maintenance.
  • Act as an escalation point for Tier 1 and Tier 2 support technicians and provide Tier 3 support for
    problems identified with systems and networks.
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies
    for improving or further leveraging existing or emergent technologies.
  • Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery
    processes in accordance with the agency's disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Management of virtual server environments hosted on Azure and on-prem VMware.
  • Provide infrastructure services and administration in storage, networking, directory services,
    login scripts, group policies, DNS, DHCP, InTune, EndPoint Management, and Patch
    Management.
  • Management of Active Directory, Group Policies, Exchange mailbox and user group
    management, file and print servers, and SharePoint.
  • Participate in after-hours upgrades, troubleshooting, and/or on-call availability as needed.
  • Work with executive team members, decision-makers, and stakeholders to define business
    requirements and systems goals and identify and resolve business systems issues.
  • Under the direction of the CIO, the candidate will initiate, plan, execute, and deliver MGC
    technical projects that will achieve specific goals and meet specific business success criteria.
  • Clearly communicate and/or escalate any IT operations issues or disruptions (planned or
    unplanned) to minimize user impact.
  • Complete all activities within MGC security policies and practices to ensure the safety and
    privacy of data, its clients, and its resources.
  • Required to travel to various sites as needed or requested.
  • Ensure that all systems software, images, and services are kept up to date.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or Information
    Technology with at least five years of relevant work experience, or High School diploma/GED
    with at least eight years of full-time or equivalent part-time, professional, relevant experience
    and training required, of which at least five years must have been work directly related to the
    duties/responsibilities as outlined.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified Associate/Expert or Microsoft Certified: Azure Associate/Expert or equivalent.
  • Five+ years' experience administering Windows Server 2012 and later.
  • Hands-on skills in the design/migration/management with SCCM, Active Directory, Intune,
    PowerShell scripting, O365, Exchange and SharePoint Online, and VMware vSphere.
  • Support and management experience with an Azure and on-prem Active Directory
    infrastructure.
  • Experience with backup and storage administration, e.g., Nimble or Commvault.
  • Experience designing, configuring, and managing Microsoft Cluster Services (MSCS).
  • Experience in administration of Active Directory and related domain-level
    components and protocols WSUS, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, and WINS.
  • Experience with Active Directory/Exchange PowerShell scripting and the ability to
    understand other scripting languages.
  • Experience with administration of MS SQL Server 2015 and later.
  • Experience documenting solutions, processes, and recovery plans using MS Project
    and Visio or comparable applications.

    standards change control procedures.

  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to provide the
    explanation of technology for nontechnical managers, directors, and above. Great people skills
    are a must.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging technologies and practices.
  • Ability to understand the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines
    governing all MGC activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs. & push 65 lbs.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with "Team-Based Practices," e.g., Agile, Kanban, Scrum Etc.
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to follow standard change management processes. Document and evaluate the impact of
    required changes to the various networked systems. Plan, schedule, and communicate changes
    to be implemented.
  • Ability to understand and follow sometimes complex oral and written instructions.
  • Experience utilizing tools and research abilities to resolve technical issues.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full
credit check, CORI, drug screen, fingerprinting, and review of income tax filing standing with the DOR and IRS.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming
law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011). Under the law, the Commission is tasked with establishing a
regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three
casino licenses and one slots parlor license in Massachusetts.
