SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Operates various instruments such as an automatic level, digital level, theodolite, total station, robotic total station, scanner or Global Navigation Survey System (GPS) to determine the elevation and or position of existing features or to set out positions for construction purposes. Works under the direct supervision of the Senior Survey Technician to satisfy the needs of design engineering and production layout.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Works under the direct supervision of a Survey Technician Leader
* Adjusts and calibrates survey instruments
* Adept at measuring angles, distances and elevations using various survey instruments
* Keep field notes and draw sketches to document field work
* Assist the Survey Technician Leader in the preparation of cut sheets

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School Diploma
* 2 years of experience in civil engineering or land survey field work
* Certified as a National Society of Professional Surveyors "Certified Survey Technician Level 2" after 90 days of employment

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
* Fundamental knowledge of mathematics including algebra, geometry and trigonometry
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point).
* Attention to detail and completeness.
* Valid driver's license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
* Participation in a professional surveying society

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
* Most work is performed outdoors in a rigorous and dynamic environment.
* Occasionally working nights, being out in inclement weather, being exposed to high-speed trains or heavy construction equipment and doing extensive walking.
* Work hours vary from day-to-day and week-to-week as project deadlines move.
* Travel: 25% - 30%

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

PAY TRANSPARENCY:

The salary/hourly range is$31.49 - 40.81.Payis based on several factors includingbutnot limited to education, work experience,certifications,internal equity,etc. Dependingon anemployee's assigned worksite orlocation, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differentialto beapplied to the employee's basesalary.
