Aon is looking a Vulnerability Engineer!

Are you passionate about mitigating the impact of natural disasters, possess expertise in data analysis, modeling, and social science and thrive in collaborative, high-stakes environments?

If so, then we want YOU to join our team as a Flood Vulnerability Engineer. You will play a critical role in developing the vulnerability component of the US flood catastrophe model, a project with the potential to save lives and billions of dollars by informing critical flood risk management decisions.

Role Responsibilities:

Develop and implement innovative ways to assess and quantify flood vulnerability across the United States. This includes incorporating diverse datasets such as demographics, infrastructure, socioeconomic factors, and environmental conditions.

Lead the development of robust statistical models to estimate flood damage to the built environment.

Analyze and interpret complex data to understand the intricate relationships between flood hazards and societal impacts.

Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and partners to ensure the model is accurate, credible, and relevant to decision-makers.

Communicate technical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, and visualizations.

Stay at the forefront of flood vulnerability research and actively contribute to the advancement of the field.

Skills and experience that will lead to success:
  • Master's degree in engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on quantitative methods.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, modeling, and research using statistical software (e.g., R, Python).
  • Understanding of flood hazards, flood damage dynamics, and relevant risk assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desired Skills (not required, but would help you stand out)

  • Professional Engineer certification preferred

Pay Transparency Laws:

The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $120,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted to reflect applicant's geographic location.
