Job Description

SUMMARY

Work with the Behavioral Health Office (BHO) and Office of the State Surgeon (OTSS) leadership and Contracting Officer Representative (COR) to receive direction, goals, and objectives for management of soldier care at the New Mexico Army National Guard (NMARNG). The LCSW is expected to meet weekly with the OTSS/COR to report on readiness performance measures, caseloads and to report acute or critical cases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The role of the LCSW will be to conduct clinical screening, evaluation, and referral for services that will maximize return to duty.
  • Applies professional knowledge of the principles, theories, procedures, and practices of social work to clinical duties in accordance with applicable Department of Defense (DoD) guidelines.
  • Conduct mental health screening and risk assessment and makes administrative recommendations for Positions of Significant Trust and Authority (POSTA).
  • Conducts annual BH screenings to determine medical readiness. Conducts pre-mobilization and post-mobilization screenings.
  • Provides BH guidance and consultation to soldiers, leaders, and military/community partners.
  • Completes comprehensive assessments under guidelines of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) of the American Psychiatric Association.
  • As appropriate, facilitates comprehensive needs assessment including biopsychosocial history.
  • Uses and interprets various psychological assessment measures.
  • Prepares written evaluation reports with clinical impressions.
  • Determines readiness and completes profiles in accordance with Army Regulation 40-501.
  • Provides timely and succinct feedback to other medical providers and service member's commander regarding assessment findings and recommendations.
  • Advises command how to best support the soldier's Behavioral Health (BH) treatment plan to optimize treatment and return to duty.
  • It is expected LCSW, and case managers will utilize in-house program such as family readiness program, financial counselor and integrated prevention programs.
  • Cases are to be opened for Guardsmen as indicated and closed in a timely manner when service member is stable and has been referred for resources.
  • Assess clients to understand the severity of their substance use and any co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • The LCSW will work directly with the NMARNG OTSS in managing behavioral health caseloads in tandem with the Behavioral Health Officer to meet the intent of the OTSS.
  • Additional responsibilities include deployment readiness and waiver management and specialty training for Guardsmen on issues related to the psychological health and resiliency.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum three (3) years of equivalent Case Management and/or Care Coordination experience with acute and chronic behavioral health conditions.
  • A Master's degree in social work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Expertise as dictated by the Clinical Licensing Board and the application of substantial specialized knowledge and have a degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Working with clients with substance use disorders is a distinct specialty and scope of practice within the social work profession.
  • Social workers working with clients with substance use disorders shall possess specialized knowledge and understanding of psychological and emotional factors, physiological issues, diagnostic criteria, legal considerations, and co-occurrence of mental health disorders and substance use.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily indoors at a well-lit military treatment facility such as a clinic, outpatient facility or hospital. The environment is normally air conditioned, but conditions may change dependent upon circumstances. Work may need to be performed in a fast-paced environment requiring quick thinking and rapid judgements. Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of clients in differing functions, personalities, and abilities. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids, latex, radiation or other contaminants and safety issues. May be exposed to infection or diseases from contact with patients. Work is highly social with patients and can be stressful with a high emotional element. Decisions made may substantially impact patients and their families.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting weights up to 10 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for manipulation of keyboard and mouse. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS PACKAGE

  • Pay range is $38 - 40 an hour.
