Compensation

Our Compensation System is designed to reward remarkable work, grow your impact and support the whole "you" over the course of your career.

We believe in paying people fairly, so we've established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless - regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or negotiation skills - is given equal pay for equal work. Our approach to compensation is intended to ensure our total package serves all of your needs and includes base pay, medical and other benefits, performance rewards, 401k matching, plus a few perks (tech and wellness reimbursement programs)! Our salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location and provide team members salary growth within a salary grade over time. Team members automatically progress within a salary range through annual increases (given to reward service at Fearless) or merit increases (given to reward and individual's demonstrated performance and growth within the position). Fearless team members are also eligible for discretionary bonuses based on company performance.

The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

Salary Range

  • AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $100,817 (min) - $131,062 (mid) - $161,307 (max)
  • NC Residents: $103,935 (min) - $135,115 (mid) - $166,296 (max)
  • DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $109,132 (min) - $141,871 (mid) - $174,610 (max)
  • DC Residents: $122,643 (min) - $159,436 (mid) - $196,229 (max)
  • CA & NY Residents: $126,800 (min) - $164,841 (mid) - $202,881 (max)

Location:
  • Hybrid. Candidate will be expected to regularly report to to client site located in Montgomery, Alabama. This includes some on-call. Candidate should be within 160 miles driving distance of Montgomery, Alabama.

Fearless is looking for a Product Designer III to add to our diverse team of 250+ employees (and counting!).

The Product Designer III is an interdisciplinary role, leading the design and strategy of digital products and services. They develop, lead, and implement processes and strategies for operationalizing design across complex products and services. They mentor, steward, and direct more junior Designers, and collaborate and steer other non-design roles on product design best practices and implementation strategies. They are experts at communicating design decisions and strategy both verbally and visually. They plan and facilitate participatory design activities to influence and build buy-in from the team and customers in order to craft scalable solutions.

Responsibilities and Contributions

Organizational and Leadership Role

  • Builds scalable DesignOps solutions for multiple cross-functional teams, as well as Business Development strategies for new opportunities.
  • Cultivates a community of growth and development through coaching and mentoring others to develop their professional skills.
  • Grows our design community and strategies, leads discussion of design practices and standards, and contributes to practice area communities and activities.

Functional Role

Collaboration

  • Builds buy-in with Engineers, Product Managers, and fellow Designers to plan and implement the best possible solutions given the circumstances and risk.
  • Mentors Designers, Engineers, Scrum Masters and Product Managers on design best practices in order to establish internal systems that ensure customer goals, user needs, and business needs are met.
  • Engages with Product Owners, stakeholders, and team leads to influence and develop roadmaps, build out requirements, and conceptualize and prioritize features.

Research and Strategy

  • Effectively communicates research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed designs, design rationale, and goals both verbally and visually to customers and large audiences of varying technical and domain knowledge.
  • Defines and develops strategies and policies, and provides guidance to others working in the strategic context as well as evaluate current strategies to ensure business requirements are being met and exceeded where possible.
  • Develops systems and processes around capturing, synthesizing, and communicating the needs and goals of users, technical and business stakeholders, clients, and Engineers.

Implementation & Design Leadership

  • Owns and champions the team's design practices and standards, through assessing and improving the quality, impact, and strategy of design outcomes and outputs.
  • Mentors Designers and Engineers on best practices for managing, maintaining, and implementing design systems.
  • Mentors, stewards, and directs other Designers through direct mentorship and strategic processes.
  • Designs and develops scalable DesignOps for multiple cross functional teams.
  • Designs systems for use across multiple services and identifies the simplest approach out of a variety of approaches.
  • Develops effective processes for ensuring products and services meet high quality design and accessibility standards.
  • Plans and facilitates participatory and iterative design activities, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery.
  • Plans and facilitates design thinking activities and workshops, including design sprints, lightning design jams, and co-designing activities.
  • Builds buy-in with the team and customer on how to best define and measure success metrics.
Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies

Must-Have Skills

  • A minimum of 8 years of related experience
  • Ability to obtain the security clearance required by the project: Public Trust
  • Ability to obtain Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Ability to successfully complete US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) testing
  • Demonstrated background working in DesignOps
  • Demonstrated background training design teams and end users
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and time management abilities.
  • Expert in identifying user and business needs, negotiating requirements, and developing solutions to meet those needs through strong influencing and communication skills.
  • Expert in understanding the sustainability and consequences of design decisions and can make decisions characterized by managed levels of risk and complexity.
  • Expert in building wireframes, low and high fidelity mockups and interactive prototypes of easy-to-navigate user interfaces (UIs).
  • Demonstrate a mastery of practice in visual and user interface design, including typography, layout, color theory and common interaction patterns.
  • Advanced skills in designing, managing and implementing iterative style guides, component libraries, frontend frameworks and design systems.
  • Expert in managing stakeholder relationships and expectations.
  • Ability to operate and manage work, strategically reason, build relationships, and influence others.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing design artifacts and providing feedback to others to ensure that the deliverables meet high quality standards.
  • Expert in developing user requirements specifications and experience goals, personas, storyboards, journey maps, scenarios, flowcharts, and design specifications.

Icing-on-the-Cake Skills

  • Advanced understanding of agile processes; ability to advise colleagues on how and why agile methods are used and provide a clear, open, and transparent framework in which teams can deliver.
  • Lives within 160 driving miles of client site in Montgomery, Alabama due to on-call needs.
  • Experience writing user stories and maintaining a backlog in an agile environment.
  • Experience leading and implementing 508 accessibility standards.
  • Experience writing with front-end technologies such as HTML & CSS.
  • Experience recruiting public and government end users for research activities.
  • Fundamental understanding of service design and/or content design.
  • Experience working with government customers.
  • Experience taking on Product Management or Scrum Master duties.
