$5K Sign on bonus available

The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) is looking for a Scientist-Nuclear Imagingto support our government customer located in Ft. Detrick, Maryland.

**Candidate hired will be eligible for a one-time sign on bonus of $5,000.00**

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops ad hoc imaging protocols, quality control procedures and operates clinical and/or pre-clinical PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging scanners in a BSL-4 setting
  • Works together with IRF scientists and external collaborators to develop and apply ad hoc image analysis protocols for images acquired on clinical and/or pre-clinical PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging scanners in a BSL-4 setting
  • Orders, prepares and handles doses of radionuclides for PET and SPECT imaging
  • Maintains and expands expertise in PET/SPECT/CT and optical imaging theory, as well as image acquisition, scanner operation, and image analysis methods with hands-on experience operating clinical and/or pre-clinical scanners.
  • Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of new developments in the in nuclear medicine and optical imaging field and actively pursue new opportunities to develop projects.
  • Develops strategies to expand image acquisition capabilities by investigating novel probes.
  • Develops strategies to expand image post-processing and/or reconstruction capabilities by using programming skills in MatLab, C, C++, ImageJ, Python or other languages/programs as necessary.
  • Participate in the presentation and publication of research findings.
  • Actively participates in practices/processes to continuously enhance data quality and integrity, including periodic development and/or review of study execution methods, and Standard Operating Procedures to identify and close gaps and refine procedures in line with top tier journal expectations.
  • Efficiently plans, executes, and reports scientific activities conducted in accordance with government and leadership directives.
  • Complies with the NIH Division of Occupational Health and Safety requirement for satisfactory completion of the Biosurety program and Select Agent program.
  • Complies with the physical security, protection of the division's property, protection of information, cyber security, agent protection, control and accountability, safe disposal and waste handling, and personal security guidelines set forth by the division's Biosurety program.
  • Liaise with the division of radiation safety (DRS) at NIH and their representatives to ensure all protocols and safety considerations for using radioactive materials at the IRF are followed and complied with.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum of a doctorate in fields related to nuclear medicine and/or optical imaging and/or molecular imaging such as nuclear medicine, physics, biophysics, chemistry, physiology, imaging sciences, radiology, and medical physics from an accredited college or university

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous SPECT/PET/CT experience required.
  • Experience using image analysis software such as MIM Software, PMOD, 3D Slicer, Analyze, or similar.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain DOJ Security Risk Assessment approval.
  • Must be willing to participate in periodic drug screening.
  • Must have the ability to obtain/maintain certification in Chemical Personnel Reliability Program and/or Biological Personnel Reliability Program.
  • Must have the ability to obtain/maintain CDC Select Agent Program approval.
  • Must be willing to work under BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 conditions. Able to wear respiratory protection.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience acquiring, post-processing, reconstructing and analyzing nuclear medicine imaging in common laboratory animals using pre-clinical imaging scanners.
  • Experience image post-processing and reconstruction by using programming skills in MatLab, C, ImageJ, Python or other languages/programs as necessary.
  • Experience with image acquisition post-processing, reconstruction and analysis using nuclear medicine scanners in clinical setting.
  • Experience with Philips nuclear medicine systems is desired.
  • Experience with Milabs and Mediso pre-clinical imaging systems highly desired.
  • Have the qualifications/capabilities to serve as the authorized user (AU) for radioactive materials.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be able to meet the requirements for T3 level clearance.
  • Must complete and pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries with fingerprinting, and a Minimum Background Investigation.
  • Must maintain the ability to work in a BSL-4 containment environment
