Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is a leading engineering firm with a rapidly growing archaeological team dedicated to preserving and interpreting cultural heritage. Committed to excellence, we provide comprehensive archaeological services to clients across various industries, including the southwest. We are currently seeking entry to mid-level Archaeologists with a focus on the Southwest and Arizona regions to join our dynamic team.

As a Colliers Engineering & Design Archaeologist specializing in the Southwest and Arizona, you will play a crucial role in our projects by contributing your expertise in the cultural heritage of these regions. You will be responsible for conducting archaeological surveys, excavations, and analyses, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and providing valuable insights into the history and prehistory of the area.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including surveys and excavations, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Execution of archaeological research designs and methodologies specific to the Southwest and Arizona.
  • Identification, analysis, and interpretation of archaeological materials and features.
  • Collaborate with project managers, environmental specialists, and other team members to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, documenting findings and adhering to industry standards.
  • Stay current with relevant archaeological research and regulatory requirements, ensuring best practices are applied in all projects.
  • Complete site forms, permits and reports under the oversight of the Principal Investigator.

  • Assist field director with questions as needed or direct them to P.I.

  • Assist with Class/Phase I, II and III Archaeological Surveys.

  • Read state and federal regulations to determine applicable requirements for projects.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. in Archaeology or a related field.
  • Minimum of three to five years experience.
  • Knowledge of the cultural history and prehistory of the Southwest and Arizona regions.
  • Understanding in the application of archaeological research designs and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations governing archaeological work in the region.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to hike in rough terrain for up to 10 hours and carry 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Skill in collecting, analyzing, verifying, and manipulating research data.
  • Skill in backpacking and wilderness survival/training.

Mid-level Archaeologist Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in archaeological fieldwork within the state of Arizona, preferably in a supervisory role of some kind.
  • Experience conducting Class I, II, III and data recovery surveys in Arizona and the southwest, with a strong understanding of archaeological sites and artifacts in the southwestern United States.
  • Familiarity with Arizona permitting (ASM and SHPO) and relevant federal permitting.
  • Ability to supervise small archaeological teams in survey.
  • Experience working with Native American tribes in the region.
  • Knowledge of GIS and other relevant archaeological software.
  • Ability to operate UTV's and offroad vehicles.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
