Description

What will you be engaged in day-to-day?

  • Overseeing entire editorial process for specific publications, such as manuscript tracking, copyediting, article layout, and website posting; ensuring quality control review produces error-free documents.
  • Performing substantive content editing and copyediting for a broad range of complex documents as needed.
  • Performing writing, content editing, and copyediting for proposals as requested.
  • Coordinating, documenting, and monitoring receipt, revision, and peer review of manuscripts that include contributions from multiple writers.
  • Working with management staff to develop and ensure adherence to document control procedures, including naming conventions, file management practices, and review processes.
  • Developing overall editorial standards and style sheets for specific clients and publications, and assisting in the development and refinement of editorial standard operating procedures.
  • Conducting quality assurance reviews, resolving conflicting or inadequate information, and suggesting revisions and enhancements.
  • Coordinating with writers, copyeditors, designers, word processor operators, desktop publishing specialists, and other production staff to prepare edited drafts for publication. Identifying problem areas and leading discussions to resolve documentation issues.
  • Providing junior editors with guidance and direction on editorial and quality control.
  • Working with management staff to develop client work plans and budgets for editorial tasks.
  • Demonstrating solid knowledge of all IQ Solutions knowledge groups.
  • Demonstrating solid knowledge of plain-language writing skills as described by the National Institutes of Health.
  • Demonstrating in-depth understanding of client editorial needs.
  • Demonstrating advanced editorial skills and knowledge of the style of the U.S. Government Printing Office.
  • Possesses visual acuity, that is, the ability to discern detail and color variations on a computer screen. Possesses the manual dexterity to input, validate, and retrieve data via a computer keyboard.
  • Works well with others and handles day-to-day situations with an acceptable, reasonable approach.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Requirements

What qualifications will help you succeed?

  • The individual must a PhD degree, or the equivalent education plus a minimum of 10 years' experience.
  • The position requires excellent written communication skills, including expert document organization ability, research skills, and flawless English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; proficiency with the editorial style of the U.S. Government Printing Office; personal computer literacy; and demonstrated competence with one or more word processing software packages adopted as standard by IQ Solutions or the client.
  • The position requires proactive initiative, dependability, and discretion in dealing with proprietary information.
