Job Description

Responsible for assisting the Director of Youth Initiatives with the coordination and management of the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. Responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating all employment and academic activities of the Summer Youth Program. Responsible for ensuring that the Summer Youth program and activities meet all local, federal, and state guidelines and policies. Has direct administrative oversight of the Summer Youth program's budget. Assist the Director of Youth Initiative with employers, public and private partners, and program participants. Responsible for providing supervision and oversight to summer youth staff and technical assistance to partners serving as employment or academic worksites for participants.

  • Assist the Director of Youth Initiatives to develop a plan for the implementation of theMayor's Summer Youth Program
  • Assist with the process of Interviewing, hiring, and supervise temporary summer staff.
  • Assist with the development of a Request for Proposal (RFP) application to solicitorganizations to provide academic enrichment programs for youth in need.
  • Assist in contract negotiations for summer youth activities.
  • Assist with developing strategies and incentives to engage corporate/non-profitcommitments for youth employment.
  • Develop a data base of employers.
  • Coordinate employer recruitment efforts with the Office of WorkforceDevelopment/JOB1 staff.
  • Assist with the planning and implementing periodic press updates.
  • Assist with planning and implementing the Employer Fair.
  • Design Career Day Workshops for youth participating in Summer EmploymentComponent.
  • Coordinate the participant application process.
  • Communicate to employers and selected applicants all needed information about theprogram.
  • Develop and order copies of all application forms, supplemental forms, handbooks,supplies, etc. needed to implement the program.
  • Coordinate orientation process for employers, youth, and parents of youth participating in the program.
  • Develop and coordinate a file maintenance process of all participants' applications,timesheet, progress reports, etc.
  • Oversee site assignments for youth participants and summer staff.
  • Review and approve all invoices from partner agencies before processing.
  • Work in connection with Payroll Coordinator.
  • Oversee the review and submission all participants' timesheets for processing.
  • Receive checks from Payroll Coordinator and distribute to all counselors.
  • Oversee the distribution of checks to youth participants and providers.
  • Troubleshoot all problems related to participants and partner agencies.
  • Summarize all concerns on a weekly basis and report them to the Director.
  • Prepare weekly reports on all Summer Youth activities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate all reporting requirements requested in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that activities and services provided meet all local, federal, and/or statefundingguidelines.
  • Attend meetings as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
  • Must be able to market program and explain the mission to the general public.
  • Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with and among allemployers, partner agencies, city officials, and personnel.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
  • Must be able to work long or extended hours, including weekends.
  • Must be able to function in a hectic work environment with occasional periods of high stress.
Qualifications
  • B.S./B.A. in business, social services, or a related field; required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years supervisory/management experience; preferred.
  • Experience working in a youth employment/academic or related program; preferred.
  • Must pass state criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must possess a current driver's license and maintain proper vehicle registration andinsurance.
