Pay Information

  • The estimated pay range for this role is $15.00 - $20.00 per hour. Offers to top candidates are based on various factors such as previous experience, qualifications and internal equity.
  • Opportunities for continued salary growth through performance-based incentive programs.

A day in the life

The Associate Claims Advocate is responsible for reviewing basic health insurance claims and inquiries and determines whether to return, deny, or pay claims following organizational policies and procedures. This role performs high volume data entry functions, prepares, sorts, and scans classified documentations and collects missing information by using standard form letters.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Receives all incoming claims and supporting documents daily, stamps the document with the accurate receipt date, and determines the appropriate action to prepare for automated scanning.
  • Assures incoming mail and documents are processed as a priority to meet internal service needs and provide efficient customer service.
  • Prepares, scans and indexes documents per classification.
  • Enters claims and supporting documentation in electronic platforms. Files, retains, and recycles documents based on retention schedules.
  • Identifies data issues on claims and follows procedural steps to correct data. Researches discrepancies and populates incomplete information, if necessary.
  • Applies the appropriate workflow channel for all incoming claims to be processed including the data verification process and entering claims into the system.
  • Sends notification to the provider or member for resubmission, if necessary.
  • Supports other functions within the department during periods of high volume demands or special projects, as necessary.
  • Performs work under direct supervision. Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.

What you need to succeed

  • A High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience with claims processing, data entry, insurance, customer service or related experience is required.
  • Pays close attention to the details of all work and strives for a high level of accuracy.
  • Responds positively to a changing environment while maintaining work efficiency.
  • Sets priorities, goals and timetables to achieve maximum results from available resources and time.
  • Ability to communicate verbally or in writing with individuals and groups to deliver or exchange information.

    Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
