As a valued crew member, the part time, on-call Supplemental Terminal Operator will work in a team environment with leadership to optimize efficiency while focusing on safety every shift. Being a member of Sprague's terminal operations will give you the opportunity to work with a wide range of duties at a bulk/break bulk material handling facility. A variety of skills/specializations may be utilized some of which may require licensure or certification. Work is primarily performed outdoors in a maritime environment 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. Also open to working 12 hour rotating shift schedule. This is a non-benefit role.

Major Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Operation of front gate and scale house
  • Assist with mooring vessels
  • Assist with vessel loading/unloading operations
  • Load/unload rail cars & highway tractors
  • Operation of lift trucks of 3,500-18,000 lbs. capacity with clamp or fork attachments, with training and certification as required
  • Operation of light and heavy equipment (loader, bulldozer, rock dump, backhoe, scraper) , with training and certification as required
  • Operation of tractor trailer rigs including vans and flats, with CDL-A drivers license
  • Warehousing operations
  • Assist with maintenance of grounds, buildings and/or equipment

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as general laborer or equipment operator
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Licenses/certifications as required for some operations
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Physical activity/strength requirements are demanding and may include:
    • Standing up to 75% of the day
    • Lifting up to 75 lbs (i.e. steel parts, spouts)
    • Carrying up to 50 lbs (i.e. oil, parts, tools)
    • Pulling up to 75 lb capacity (i.e. mooring lines)
    • Extended climbing (i.e. vessel ladders/stairs/gangways)
  • Incumbent must possess the ability to work in a safe manner and maintain a constant state of alertness as the nature of work performed within our terminal operations create conditions where a momentary lack of concentration or alertness can lead to catastrophic results.
