Description

The Landman reports to the Land Manager or VP-Land and leads projects and performs day to day tasks in an independent manner. Responsible for acquisition and maintenance of Permian Basin producing properties as well as negotiations, maintenance and interpretation of all agreements required for exploration, development, and operations. Represents the Company in external discussions with WI owners and mineral/royalty owners.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct field brokers to run title, acquire oil and gas leases, prepare run sheets and aid the company landman in curing title deficiencies; cure title deficiencies brought forth within division order and drilling title opinions.
  • Notify exploration and production personnel of all upcoming lease obligations and participate in determining contractual provision of various agreements contributing to the disposition of each obligation; monitor continuous development obligations for leases.
  • Acquire leasehold rights, and seek out trades, farmins and farmouts with operators to optimize land holdings; perform other A&D duties as necessary.

EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required; preferably BBA, PLM or JD
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of practicing mineral landman experience required
  • Strong Permian Basin experience as 'in house' mineral landman
  • Strong A&D experience, including due diligence work
  • Working knowledge of oil and gas leases required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Capable of developing written communications appropriate for internal and external audiences
  • Ability to work closely with land, exploration, production, legal and financial departments in accomplishing common goals
  • Ability to work with landowners, outside joint venture partners, potential partners and governmental agencies

COMPENSATION:

Salary is commensurate with experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is normally performed in a climate-controlled environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of a normal office environment. No environmental hazards are encountered in performance of normal job duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying 20-pound objects such as files, documents, boxes, etc. Work involves sitting most of the time but may involve standing and walking for brief periods. Travel is occasionally required (less than 5% of time).
