PURPOSE

Our clients have recognized our value and hired us to help them address the world's most important problems related to climate change, biodiversity conservation, and community resilience. Our rapid growth has led us to improve our accounting systems and expand our finance and accounting team. This position will play a key role in our team with a primary responsibility of ensuring that all our accounting systems run smoothly.

We are looking for a Controller with significant experience working in government contracting to join our finance and accounting team in Washington, D.C. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, including ensuring close processes and financial statements are completed on time, maintaining our books in a manner compliant with government contracting requirements, managing our indirect rates, and overseeing our accounts payable and payroll. Additionally, given the nature of our growing company, this position will identify and implement improvements to our accounting-related processes to meet emerging needs of the company, as well as integrate and oversee the accounting of any new and existing international field offices with our home office accounting.

OBJECTIVES AND DELIVERABLES

The following provides some near-term objectives and deliverables related to this position.

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures compliant with GAAP, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and DCAA requirements.
  • Support the startup of accounting functions in new international field offices and the ongoing management and integration of international field office with home office accounting.
  • Advise on financial analyses and decision-making regarding capital investments, pricing and cost proposals, contract negotiations, significant costs, benchmarks, and other matters with management.
  • Assist management with important financial decisions.
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of indirect rates including developing internal budgets and forecasts and preparing and submitting incurred costs electronic submissions.
  • Serve as the primary interface with government, internal, and external auditors.
  • Prepare financial documents such as business reports, financial forecasts and statements to understand the financial state of business.
  • Preparing financial reports and budgets.
  • Monitor a company's financial reports and determine ways to reduce costs.
  • Keep up-to-date on the financial market to understand how to maximize profits and find new expansion areas.
  • Understand the financial status of a company to meet legal requirements and keep the financial state in good standing.
  • Manage internal controls and processes through bank accounts, payment systems and all other treasury functions.
  • Manage company cash flow and ling of credit.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 9 years of experience in accounting, finance, business or other related field of study; Master's degree and 7 years of experience in accounting, finance, business or other related field of study; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading the accounting functions of a professional services company or division in the government contracting sector.
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounts payable processes, including bank reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading payroll.
  • Certificate Public Accountant.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Deltek Costpoint8.
  • Experience developing indirect rate budgets and indirect rate proposals.
  • Experience overseeing and coordinating with international field offices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Detail-oriented and highly organized in maintaining accounting processes and systems.
  • Clarity of thought and effective written and verbal communication in English.
  • Exceptional listening and problem-solving skills and ability to streamline accounting processes.
  • Ability to attend conference calls and virtual meetings with international accounting staff and partners outside of regular business hours approximately 3-6 times per month.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite and Google App.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States with no restrictions.
  • Criminal background check required.

BASE STATION AND COVID-19 POLICY

The position will be based in Washington, DC. Environmental Incentives is implementing a hybrid work model in which employees, including this position, will be required to work in the office approximately two days per week.

Proof of full vaccination against Covid-19 or legally authorized exemption is required for all Environmental Incentives employees working in the United States, regardless of office location or remote work. Selected candidates will be required to provide proof of full vaccination before beginning employment with Environmental Incentives. Full vaccination is defined as 2 weeks after the final dose of the requisite vaccination.
