Summary of Job Duties:Description: The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences invites applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness and Director of the Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence. We seek an energetic individual to lead the department across our threefold mission of producing knowledge through research, teaching, and extension activities. As professor and head of the department, the successful candidate will enhance the department's visibility and impact at state, national, and international levels by pursuing and fostering relationships with external stakeholders. As Director of the Fryar Center, the successful candidate will leverage Center resources (see below) to establish an international reputation for industry-informed scholarship on risk management in agricultural/food supply chains.

The Head reports to the Division of Agriculture's Associate Vice Presidents for Research and Extension and the Dean of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenured appointment.

Responsibilities:
Professor and Head
*Provide forward-thinking leadership with a vision that leverages departmental resources.
*Ensure academic programs remain innovative and relevant by fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment that encourages excellence in research, teaching, and extension.
*Recruit, mentor, and support faculty, staff, and students.
*Oversee and manage departmental budgets and resources.
*Serve on broad administrative teams for the Division of Agriculture and Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences.
Director of the Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence
*Participate in and provide direction for the Center's integrated mission of teaching, research, and extension.
*Promote the Center and its mission through stakeholder engagement.
*Work with the Center's industry advisory committee to develop and implement strategic planning.

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness consists of 20 faculty members in three locations: the UA main campus in Fayetteville (16), the UA Cooperative Extension Service State Office in Little Rock (3), and the Rice Research and Extension Center in Stuttgart (1). The department is one of nine academic departments in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food & Life Sciences. Currently, it has an enrollment of approximately 350 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate students. The Department offers a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics, and departmental faculty supervise doctoral students in Public Policy, Environmental Dynamics, and Economics. The Department also recently developed an undergraduate online degree option and offers a minor for other disciplines.

The Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence stands as a pioneering institution dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of risk management across the food and fiber system. The Fryar Center offers a comprehensive range of educational, research, and extension initiatives and is committed to developing an international scholarship program with a vision to equip professionals and students with cutting-edge risk management strategies.

The Fryar Price Risk Management Center of Excellence was established in 2020 through a generous gift of $10 million from Dr. Ed and Michelle Fryar. Dr. Fryar was formerly a professor in the department and left the faculty to found Ozark Mountain Poultry, Inc.

The Fryar Center's leadership includes a Director and an Associate Director for Research. Additionally, there are two full-time affiliated faculty members and support from post-doctoral researchers and graduate students.Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and have a deep understanding of the discipline. Prior experience in the Land Grant University System and demonstrated leadership experience in an academic setting are strongly preferred. The candidate's record must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including: faculty, students, administration, funding organizations, and industry partners. Previous engagement experience with multidisciplinary teams is also preferred.
