Job Summary

The Respiratory Care Clinical Specialist serves as a practitioner, educator, consultant and collborator to provide advanced clinical skills. Based on these skills the Specialist develops implements and evaluates a plan for meeting the educational needs of the staff as well as evaluating the skills set possessed by the team members. Participate in shift supervision on an as needed basis.

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

* Act as liaison /clinical coordinator for respiratory care student programs.

* Analyze patient care plans for evidence of documentation of standards of practice, shares findings with Assistant Director/Director.

* Collaborate in setting unit standard of care and monitors indicators of quality.

* Coordinate the evaluation of new equipment /products.

* Demonstrate expertise in the execution of daily patient care, providing collaboration, direction and instruction.

* Develop, implement and evaluate orientation programs for employees.

* Give direct input into staff development for clinical ladder progression.

* Maintain clinical competencies and education records of Respiratory Care staff and other hospital personnel as necessary.

* Provide expertise in the planning and delivery of special patient care problems.

* Provide input to staff performance appraisals and applicant hiring and termination decisions.

* Provide orientation, education and training as needed to internal and external RCPs.

* Serve in the role of supervisor as required and assume on-call responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Graduate of AMA approved program for Respiratory Care.

Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.

Current American Heart Association (AHA) Certification for Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for Healthcare Providers.

-AND-

NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certificate

-AND-

RCP - CA Respiratory Care Practice, valid RCP license for state of California

-AND-

RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

* Ability to adjust communications to fit the needs and level of understanding of the receiver.

* Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting and advising as well as prepare clear, comprehensive written and oral reports and materials.

* Ability to engage in laboratory and clincial research.

* Ability to provide leadership and influence others.

* Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $140,254.40 to $166,264.80
