How You'll Contribute to the Team:

The President, Higher Education is responsible for driving the values and culture of the business segment through strong leadership, ethical conduct, and disciplined business processes. The role provides strategic and financial leadership with an emphasis on maximizing the value of the investment to meet the owners/board's expectation. Ensuring optimal performance, a highly engaged workforce, and operational effectiveness to is at the forefront of this role.

While the role is remote, we prefer to hire selected candidates from the following states: AL, FL, GA, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, MI, NC, NE, OK, RI, TN, and TX.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Model, and demonstrate by example, the importance of adhering to the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct through clear and direct communication of behavioral expectations.
  • Ensure the business segment complies with all applicable laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Serve as the business segment representative with clients, investors, and business partners.
  • Generate partner-specific commercial insight by maintaining a detailed understanding of partner's goals, concerns, and drivers; utilize information gathered to challenge partner to act and influence the performance of the existing portfolio.
  • Apply financial management principals and knowledge to ensure solutions and decisions are fiscally sound.
  • Negotiate complex and innovative issues to execute on the business plan for the organization.
  • Implement an effective business strategy with actionable goals focused on optimal performance.
  • Establish operational benchmarks and resources needed to achieve strategic goals, proactively driving improvements as necessary.
  • Set standards of accountability and clearly defined measurements of success for your team.
  • Effectively align systems and structures across teams to maximize impact and operational effectiveness.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the Asset Management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate existing business and objectives.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership to the Property Management team to ensure that appropriate operational systems, processes, controls, and personnel are in place to successfully maximize business opportunities and manage risk.
  • Responsible for maximizing the portfolio's performance to position for future, driving the performance to achieve and surpass profitability.
  • Ensure program compliance in accordance with defined legal requirements.
  • Provide timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the business.
  • Coordinate functional support department leads to deliver on shared initiatives at the enterprise level.
  • Model the highest standards of business professionalism; lead the training and development of team members through coaching, motivating, and mentoring on company culture, business goals, fiscal responsibility, and sound business judgment.
  • Lead the recruitment and retention of a diverse team of professionals; create accountability and ownership among team members through communication of clear expectations, supervision, and timely performance feedback.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Role Specific Requirements Include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field. MBA preferred.
  • 20+ years of strong business experience with a focus on upholding contract obligations and identifying opportunities for increasing financial performance is required.
  • 10+ years in an executive leadership role focusing on leading motivated, professional, high performing teams to achieve performance and financial results is required.
  • Previous experience as a real estate executive managing a diverse, national student housing portfolio is required.
  • Previous experience working in public-private partnerships or comparable equivalent is required.
  • Demonstrated ability and success developing, clear and comprehensive strategic plans, taking into account both short- and long-term goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and influence key decision makers and stakeholders in a transparent and open manner, across multi-faceted communication channels. Ability to tailor message and interaction to meet need.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage P&L/budget and resources through making informed decisions that maximize returns while minimizing risk.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems quickly and effectively through quality decision making defined as decisions that take calculated risks, balance potential risk and reward of such decision.
  • Demonstrated ability to deploy effective negotiation techniques with an emphasis upon obtaining mutually beneficial outcomes and achieving results.
  • Executive level presentation skills required. Ability to effectively communicate vision and goals to employees, stakeholders, and customers in a clear, concise, and compelling way.
  • Ability to travel regularly.
