The Larsen Lab for the Adolescent Brain is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our team at the University of Minnesota's Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (MIDB). This position will focus on an exciting area of work that investigates the interplay between iron, neurodevelopment, and mental health in adolescents. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to spearhead NIH-funded research projects focused on or related to:
* Brain iron content and the dopaminergic system: Investigate the role of iron in the development of the brain's dopaminergic system during youth using cutting-edge ultra-high field 7T MRI.
* Iron deficiency and adolescent neurodevelopment: Investigate the impact of iron deficiency, a prevalent concern during adolescence, on brain structure and function, and its link to cognitive development.
* Sex differences, pubertal development, and brain iron content: Explore how increased prevalence of iron deficiency in postpubertal females may confer specific vulnerability to brain and cognitive development, with important translational implications for prevention and intervention.

The postdoctoral scholar will work within the newly formed Masonic Institute for the Developing Brain (https://midb.umn.edu/) and will have the opportunity to work with a host of talented individuals (including Drs. Damien Fair, Steve Nelson, Eric Feczko, Oscar Miranda-Dominguez, and Brenden Tervo-Clemmens). The scholar will be able to draw on world-class neuroimaging facilities and training at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), including ultra-high resolution 7T imaging. Responsibilities:

* Conduct research using state-of-the-art 7T MRI as well as existing large-scale neuroimaging datasets to map brain iron development in adolescents.
* Analyze and interpret neuroimaging, hematological, and cognitive data to uncover the relationships between peripheral iron, brain iron, and neurocognitive function during development.
* Collaborate with a diverse team of researchers, including the PI, graduate students, and other postdoctoral fellows.
* Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
* Gain experience writing and submitting grants for institutions such as the National Institutes as Health.
* Have the freedom to pursue your own research interests within the broader theme of adolescent neurodevelopment, with the PI's guidance and support.

Required Qualifications

* PhD in neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

* Strong experience in neuroimaging data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.
* Experience with developmental biostatistical modeling (e.g. generalized additive models, multilevel models, SEM).
* Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
* Passion for developmental neuroscience and the potential of multimodal neuroimaging to advance our understanding of brain development.
* Enthusiasm for exploring new research directions in collaboration with the PI.
