We are seeking a Peer Specialist to join our Crisis and Stabilization Team, supporting Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.

Position Details

As a member of the Crisis and Stabilization Team, the Peer Specialist possesses the skills and experience necessary to provide in person crisis intervention for individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis and connecting them to the most appropriate level of care and community resources. Services are provided in a two-person response team under the clinical and administrative supervision of the Program Director. As a member of a response team the Peer Specialist is community-based staff

Role Specific Responsibilities

  • Be self-identified as having experience with the process of recovery from mental illness or substance use disorder either as a consumer of these services or as the parent or family member and be willing to share their experience to aid in someone else's recovery journey.
  • Respond to urgent/emergency (non 911) calls and provide crisis interventions, risk assessment, and make linkages to appropriate levels of care of community resources.
  • Provide short term case management and coordination to ensure proper linkage to needed services and community resources.
  • Quickly establish therapeutic relationships with the individual and/or family being served utilizing trauma informed care approaches and recovery oriented best practices.
  • Develop short term goal plans in conjunction with the individual and/or family
  • Educate and provide support to the individual and/or family on their rights and how to navigate the mental health and legal system
  • Demonstrate trauma informed care practices and recovery-oriented approaches in all interactions

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Must be eligible for Peer Specialist certification.
  • Current Certified Peer Specialist certification preferred.
  • Two years' experience in the behavioral health field preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Valid PA driver's license.
  • Ability to pass appropriate state and federal clearances.
