This is a location specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) position/function only for the Nice/Middleton Bridge facility located in Charles County. All interested persons will need to apply separately for all other vacancies in this classification.

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to perform journey-level high-voltage electrical work in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standard practices or rules governing the electrical trade. The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Independently perform high-voltage electrical installation, connection, maintenance, and repair work in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standard practices. High-voltage electricians work with electric circuits carrying in excess of 600 volts, in accordance with the National Electrical Code and the Underwriter's Rules, for electrical wiring and installation.

This maintenance work requires physical exertion performed outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDTA building. Employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work on equipment located on high poles or other elevated locations, and/or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground. Employees in this classification are considered essential employees and are subject to emergency call-back procedures, twenty-four hours a day, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Employees in this classification receive general supervision from a maintenance supervisor or other designated supervisor. The current vacancy exists in Newberg, MD.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFIATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience working with high-voltage (600 volts and up) service, switch gear, and control wiring or large (30 horsepower or more) motors, compressors, and motor circuitry is required. Two (2) years of this experience must have been in a commercial or industrial setting. Please note that your application must specify the high-voltage job duties performed.

Notes:

1. Additional work experience performing skilled trades work as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. A certificate from a vocational-technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications

1. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. All applicants must list their license number and expiration date on the application.

2. During the probationary period, employees may be required to obtain and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated.

3. The employing administration may require employees to satisfy its agency training, and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.

Additional Information

1. Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day, or night, as may be required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and are subject to call-in.

2. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements.

3. Employees who work with, or may be exposed to, hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint, or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and may be required to pass hazardous materials training and can wear a respirator.

4. Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance work on high structures and in cramped quarters.

5. Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and must sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.

6. Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

7. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
