Provides professional dental hygiene services to patients of the WVU/Eastern Division Children's Dental Program in public schools and in WVU dental clinics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associate degree in dental hygiene

2. License for Dental Hygienist from the WV Board of Dentistry

3. Certificate for Public Health Hygienist from the WV Board of Dentistry

EXPERIENCE:

1. At least 3 years' experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Hygienist will provide prophys, fluoride varnish treatments, and sealants to patients of all ages.

2. Establish and ensure aseptic technique during procedures.

3. Review patient records for thoroughness and appropriateness, especially regarding medical condition that could complicate a procedure.

4. Screen patients for decay and refer for restorative care.

5. Perform debridement and scaling of teeth per dentist's orders.

6. Follow established clinical policies and procedures.

7. Place sealants on teeth in school children per program protocol as laid out in CDC guidelines.

8. Job is on an "as needed" basis and scheduling will be based on patient load.

9. Must be able to work without direct supervision of a dentist.

1. Must meet Department of Labor's MEDIUM duty standard (Medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).

2. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-10 hour shift.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Must be able to disinfection and sterilization of office and equipment per OSHA standards.

2. Must be able to keep an inventory of and make recommendations for ordering supplies.

3. Must be able to work efficiently while maintaining a pleasant atmosphere with patients.

4. Communicate verbally, written and electronically with staff, families and patients
