(MTSI) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with space experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to the United States Space Force (USSF) to develop and sustain a National Space Test and Training Complex, Digital Range (NSTTC-D).

Responsibilities

Modern Technology Solutions Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with space experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to the United States Space Force (USSF). A successful candidate should be a proven problem solver with the ability to lead teams to deliver superior results as part of a high-profile, fast-paced environment. The position requires a strong understanding of space requirements and operational environment. The candidate will develop Systems Engineering products to enable the next generation of test and training ranges to support the USSF Test Enterprise in order to drive data-informed decisions at speed, maximizing the Service's flexibility and efficiency in delivering space-based capabilities for the Joint Force and the nation. The successful candidate will be self-starter who possess initiative, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Collecting, normalizing, and inputting data into the NSTTC-D and its models.
  • Performing in-depth research.
  • Reconciling complex data and information across multiple systems and reports to provide data driven recommendations for solutions for the NSTTC-D.
  • Maintaining overall knowledge of and stay up to date with systems engineering industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies, evaluating their potential impact on the NSTTC-D's development strategies and possible implementation.
  • Utilizing complex software in the development of analytical models for space systems and sub-systems.
  • Comprehending and applying USSF policies, concepts, and guidance into the NSTTC-D products.
  • Effectively implementing instructions and policies into routine performance.
  • Developing tools and applications to foster efficiency in day-to-day activities.
  • Understanding space test planning, training, and scheduling.
  • Experience with hardware, software, network, and cloud integration.
  • Ability to generate clear, concise, and intuitive presentation of results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and reporting practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work well in a team environment.
  • Performs duties in research, development, testing, evaluation, operation, and maintenance of models, databases, systems, and /subsystems.
  • Providing advice and assistance to leadership and the team on problems, issues, and projects for assigned programs.
  • Applying engineering theories, mission requirements, new applications, or developments to improve operations and/or resolve unique or complex problems and issues.
  • Developing and reviewing the overall system design baseline's architecture and interoperability requirements.
  • Translating user requirements into system requirements, which is used to design, develop, integrate, test, and evaluate models, and systems and subsystems including software- and hardware-in-the-loop.
  • Providing systems/subsystems integration support for the acquisition, development, sustainment and verification of systems, software, and equipment using Air Force Engineering processes, the Systems Engineering process ("V" diagram), and Agile processes.
  • Documenting engineering activities, including writing reports, analyzing test data, creating/understanding schedules, and making recommendations to the leadership and team
  • Working as a trusted, strategic partner with the customer by delivering actionable insights about emerging technologies as well as with technically minded external partners.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Minimum twelve (12) years of systems engineering and fielding/integration experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years shall include duties or assignments specifically in support of space acquisition programs.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience providing a lead engineering role for a relevant space sustainment effort.
  • Must be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, can accomplish high-level tasks independently, and works well with other team members and customers.
  • Knowledge of DoD Systems Engineering best policies, practices, procedures.
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar coding language producing data plots or figures.
  • LINUX knowledge and experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience with duties or assignments specifically in support of engineering relevant to space programs.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in Multi-Domain/Multi-Level Security architectures.
  • Experience working on-site in a government client environment.
  • Experience with DoD Acquisition Lifecycle experience and/or Rapid Acquisition / Rapid Delivery experience
  • Capability to assume a leadership role during system requirements reviews, preliminary design reviews and other types of technical meetings.
  • Familiarity with agile project management practices.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics, or related scientific discipline.

Security Clearance Level Required:

  • Top Secret, SCI eligible (please note: U.S. Citizenship is required).
  • Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information.
  • Willingness to submit to a Counterintelligence polygraph.

Location/Travel Requirements:

  • Full-time, on site in Colorado Springs, CO areas
  • May require travel up to 30% of time within the continental United States.

Compensation

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $198,000.00/year to $240,000.00/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract rates, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act.
