Job Description

Overview

This position works under the guidance of a Foreman or other Construction Site Manager in support of cable installation at project sites such as a refineries facility. The key responsibilities include but is not limited to lead in coordination/collaboration efforts to keep the job running smoothly, independently develop actionable plan in order to execute tasks required on electrical construction/upgrade sites, thorough understanding of conductor identification and insulation resistance testing, demonstrated mastery in ability to measure and bend conduit using appropriate equipment, independently install raceway systems, electrical devices and effectively use test equipment in order to test and troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits.

To be successful in this position you must have at least 3 years' experience working under a Craftsman/Foreman and able to demonstrate ability to independently install raceway systems, pay and pour seals, light fixtures and start/stop stations and an understanding of proper installation of electrical cables. Effectively use test equipment to troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits. You will be able to successfully complete assigned tasks proactively and lead training of Apprentices. Should be ready to take and pass Journeyman Certificate before able to move up to Certified Craftsman position.


Responsibilities

  • Set up and executing wire pulls, including accurately measuring, cutting, pulling, tagging, shaping and securing cable to wireways.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools such as bandsaws, drill, conduit threaders, hole punches and wire tuggers.
  • Properly pack and pour seals, terminate single conductor and multi conductor cables.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy machinery and lift equipment such as scissor lift, man lift, etc.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and proactively identify potential hazards on electrical construction and upgrade job sites. Take appropriate action when needed.
  • Lead coordination/collaboration efforts with other teams including procurement, turnaround, projects and maintenance teams.
  • Independently develop actionable plan on electrical construction and upgrade job sites.
  • Through understanding of conductor identification and insulation resistance testing.
  • Demonstrate mastery in measuring and bending up to 6" conduit using manual, mechanical, hydraulic and electric conduit benders. Ability to teach and lead multiple apprentices.
  • Proficient in and ability to train others in Install single and banked raceway systems comprised of rigid, aluminum, PVC and plastibond conduit. Installing supports along with galvanized steel, aluminum and fiber glass cable tray.
  • Lead team of apprentices and install electrical devices such as; junction boxes, lighting panels, transformers, motor starters, distribution panels, start/stop stations, light fixtures and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Perform tests, troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits.
  • Mastery use of test equipment such as volt-ohm meter, amp meter and megohmmeter.
  • Direct and mentor 3 apprentices to complete assigned tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of High School or equivalent
  • Has 3 years or more experience in the Industry Trade.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safe work procedures associated with the assigned work including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, Confined Spaces, Emergency Action Plans, Safe Work Permits, Incident Reporting and Hazcom procedures.
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in the construction and operation of electrical equipment and installation thereof and related safety protocol.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and OSHA Electrical Safe Work Practices
  • Knowledge of hazards and safe work procedures associated with working from elevated work areas and personal lift equipment.
  • Knowledge of use, limitations and maintenance of all Personal Protective Equipment required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Maintain alliance safety council Basic 12.
  • Hold and Maintain TWIC Card, as required for project site.
  • Maintain all required heavy equipment operator certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Capable of maintaining a high energy level to handle a dynamic, fast-paced workload.
  • Excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications are not required for an applicant to be considered a candidate for the position.

  • Prepare to take written and hands on NCCER Exam for Journeyman Certificate.
  • Maintain valid driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age in order to operate a Fleet Vehicle for insurance purposes.
