About this unit

4 South is a forty-four bed Progressive Neurosurgical unit located in Butterworth. In this role you will be instrumental in the care of general neurology and neurosurgical patients. Our neurosurgical patients are complex. We care for spine surgery patients, patients who have undergone craniotomy and craniectomy for brain tumor resection, removal or debulking and elective aneurysm interventions. Our general neurology patients include those who have experienced acute, stroke, seizure, chronic headaches, and general neurological disorders including Guillen-Barre Syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and myasthenia gravis exacerbations.

Scope of work

Assumes shift accountability for managing, supervising, and coordinating the operational and financial effectiveness and efficiency of the nursing service/ unit of the hospital. Some service lines may require the ability to be available for on-call to better support the nursing service/unit. Additionally, Inpatient Supervisors may be required to fill-in for the hospital supervisor as needed. Key responsibilities include assisting with the following: clinical support, unit-based goal setting, program development, fiscal management, resource allocation, standards of care, policy and procedure development and interpretation, performance improvement, performance correction, and coaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing Required.
• Master's degree in nursing Preferred.
• 1+ years clinical experience in Neuro Required.
• MI Registered Nurse license Required.
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Required.
• NIHSS NIH Stroke Certification 90 Days required.
• Corewell Health Nurse Supervisors are REQUIRED to obtain their Nursing Administration or Professional/Specialty Certification within 12 months of assuming the role, or within 12 months of achieving eligibility to sit for the exam if not eligible upon hire into the role.
