Summary of Position:

Sanmina is looking for a knowledgeable and ambitious person to fill a Supplier Quality Engineer position. This position may be based out of either the Fremont or Newark, CA locations. In this role, you will support Sanmina's growth by helping to identify, qualify and monitor the performance of outsources vendors and outside processers. You will also support investigations into supplier quality issues that affect customer deliveries and impact production. Typical suppliers include coaters and cleaners, raw material providers and other outsourced manufacturing processes such as rough machine, brazing and welding. The ideal candidate will be a strong technical resource, able to evaluate both the efficacy of supplier quality management systems and the technical merits of supplier manufacturing processes and controls.

Nature of Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead new supplier qualification activities, including on-site assessments and capability reviews
  • Understand and prioritize supplier quality issues and performance by analyzing key supplier performance data. Present metrics and improvement plans to management.
  • Engage with key suppliers to assess conditions preventing quality and delivery execution. Assist the supplier as required in developing and executing recovery plans.
  • Proactively partner with key suppliers to refine and enhance products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to assure quality of goods and services provided.
  • Assist in improving and refining the supplier qualification and risk assessment processes
  • Perform source inspection when required at local vendors
  • Communicate and coordinate directly with customers to provide timely response to customer quality escapes from suppliers

Education and Experience:

  • BS degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum of 5years of experience in Supplier Quality with direct experience performing supplier on-boarding, qualification activities.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or working with suppliers where machining, metal fabrication, cleaning, coating processes, etc. were performed
  • Proven ability to improve supplier quality through direct engagement, performance data analysis, and supplier corrective action requests
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Experience with reading and interpreting GD&T requirements required
  • Detailed knowledge and hands on experience with quality tools including process flowcharts, FMEA's, control plans, CAPA, RCCA and 8D required
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 certified environment required
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies including statistical analysis techniques (Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control (SPC), etc) preferred
  • Certified Green or Black belt a plus
  • Internal audit experience a plus
  • Experience using Microsoft Office/Google Workspace required
  • Expected travel is less than 25%
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform visual inspection.

This is an ITAR facility and applicant must be a US Citizen or a lawful permanent resident

Salary Range (annual): $100,000 - $137,000
