Position Summary

Allan Hancock College is a California public community college located in northern Santa Barbara County. The college is ranked as one of the five best community colleges in California and one of the top 120 community colleges in the nation. Approximately 11,500 credit students enroll each semester at one of the college's four locations in Santa Maria, Lompoc, Santa Ynez Valley, or at Vandenberg Space Force Base. This tenure-track assignments will begin August 2022. New faculty will be invited to teach a variety of courses and will also contribute through instruction and service to expanding the department's learning communities in support of our Latinx, AAPI, and African American students, as well as other historically underrepresented student populations.  

The coordinator assignment includes scheduling classes and personnel in collaboration with the department chair and dean; recruiting support staff and part-time faculty; making recommendations for hiring faculty and staff; coordinating outreach activities; advising and assisting students on academic and career plans and interests; establishing and maintaining advisory committees; conducting meetings; mentoring faculty and staff; developing and managing program budgets; purchasing and overseeing program inventory, care and maintenance of program equipment, materials and supplies; ensuring program compliance with applicable laws and regulations; conducting course and program reviews; and developing curriculum. Coordinator activities may require travel per district policy within and outside the district area as a representative of the district to develop and maintain collaborations with the community: including local high schools, local industry, universities and colleges, and professional associations.  The coordinator assignment may include activities on evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications

Ability to develop and manage operational budgets to requisition and receive supplies and materials.

Effectively teach at least 5 of the courses listed in the Administration of Justice course offerings listed in the college catalog.

Effectively and appropriately communicate verbally and in writing within a multi-cultural and diverse working environment.

Effectively use contemporary technology to perform the duties and responsibilities for the instruction and coordination assignments.

Work with and assist people have a broad range of skills, motivation, and academic or vocational interests and goals.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in any discipline, and two years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment.
OR
An associate degree in any discipline, and six years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment.
OR

The equivalent as outlined in Board Policy 7211 (Download PDF reader).


A master’s degree in any discipline and experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment is preferred.

Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities. 

Additional Information

The hiring salary range is $57,858 to $82,391 dependent upon education and experience.
