Position Summary

The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate a crane (boom or hydraulic) as well as a travel lift (Mi-Jack)  to lift, transport and position product loads for storage in our yard or onto trailers for shipment to a jobsite.  ** Note that Spancrete is not accepting apprentices for this position**

    Review work assignments to plan and coordinate the movement of product from the plant to the yard and from the yard to the job site.
  • Perform start up inspection at beginning of each shift to ensure crane is safe to operate.
  • Perform daily inspection of wire ropes and rigging.
  • Pushes and pulls levers to operate yard crane; lifting product off of forms and placing on yard trailers, lifting the product from the trailer and transporting to a suitable location in the yard.
  • Observes all prescribed regulations regarding safe operation of the crane.
  • Works with yard crew to ensure proper hitching procedures are followed.
  • Communicates with yard crew using hand signals when lifting, transporting and positioning loads.
  • Prepares piece for final shipment by removing product from the yard storage area, transporting to a trailer and loading it on a trailer for final shipment.
  • Perform necessary preventative maintenance on the crane/heavey equipment piece assigned to him.
  • Reports any equipment malfunction or problems to a supervisor.
  • Performs minor maintenance to the crane including daily greasing, oil changes, adding fluids as required and replacing worn wire ropes.
  • Follows instructions, guidelines and procedures timely and accurately.
  • Continually and actively seeking to learn new skills and progress in level of responsibility.
  • Looks for ways to improve processes, reduce errors and increase efficiencies.
  • Performing plant clean up/housekeeping including putting away tools, sweeping debris and cleaning cluttered areas.
  • Adhering to safety standards.


  • Valid crane operator's license.
  • 1-2 years of hands on experience operating boom or hydraulic cranes is required.
  • Working knowledge of rigging hand signals
  • Ability to read a tape measure and blue print.
  • Ability to get to work on time, on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work outside year-round
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle
  • Ability to work at elevated heights (above 4 ft.)
