Job Description

The Mobile Materials Handling group of Nordco, a customer focused business utilizing continuous improvement and creative thinking to foster a culture of exceeding customers’ expectations, is looking for a Field Service Technician.

The Field Service Tech will diagnose and repair railcar movers (Shuttlewagon) along with competitive brands in an effort to provide excellent customer service. This position requires a self-motivated, assertive individual that is computer literate, and have excellent communication and customer relation skills. Also, it is required that a person in this position have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.   DOT licensing may be required.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Analyze and diagnose (troubleshoot) equipment malfunctions or failures
  • Perform preventative maintenance as scheduled or recommended
  • Repair, replace, transmissions, final drives, steering, clutches, hydraulic components, electrical systems and air systems
  • Determine correct parts, order and complete task in a timely manner, as well as, returning all unused parts in a timely manner
  • Communicate with the customer and internal aftermarket team regarding all aspects of the work being performed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 


  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Technical school and/or training preferred



  • 3-5+ years of Mechanical Experience
  • 2-3 years of field service experience
  • Ability to service and repair heavy equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and technical documentation.

  • All service work is completed onsite at customer locations, via company vehicle
  • FST’s are supplied with a service vehicle, and have the potential to travel up to 5hrs one-way, to support customer needs
  • 85% of travel is within a 200 mile radius
  • Overnight stays may be required
  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

  • Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, bend, work underneath equipment, reach above shoulders, and climb
  • This is a safety sensitive position
  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
  • Employee requires the use of hands and fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls
  • Employee will be exposed to industrial environments as well as to outside temperatures in all weather conditions
