General Description

The Cost Controller is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions. The Cost Controller will develop, administer and oversee financial and accounting activities for the company. The Cost Controller is a key member of the management team of the division, responsible for all financial processes in the division with regular interaction with operational and financial staff.

Key Duties

  • Preparation of the monthly management reporting in line with Eurovia's procedures and deadlines
  • Preparation of three annual budgets during the year, including input into SAP
  • Detailed analysis of the work in progress and billing of the jobs
  • Regular review of business performance in the division, including analysis of variances from the budget
  • Reconciliation of monthly inventory in line with surveys
  • Provide support to the operational management in analyzing job performance
  • Assistance with the annual financial audit process
  • Regular review of the balance sheet for the division
  • Direct supervision of the accounts payable and accounts receivable staff
  • Bookkeeping reconciliations
  • Review of pay estimates and input of monthly progress billings from project manager schedules
  • Monitor and ensure adherence to project budgets
  • Management of subcontracts, including verification of bonding and insurance, payroll reporting (as applicable) and processing of pay requests
  • Preparation of financial reports for financial review meetings
  • Review monthly end financial statements, including job cost, plant materials, fixed and variable cost inventories
  • Prepare Sales and Use tax returns as needed
  • Prepare, enter, post and adjust journal entries
  • Assist with collections, including monitoring of NTO's and processing of liens and releases
  • Monitor accounts receivable and perform collections as needed
  • Assist in preparation of documents for internal audits
  • Assist Division Controller with preparation of periodic budgets and forecasts
  • Supervise and/or assist A/P staff across several operating units
  • Ensure all accounting and financial practices adhere to company guidelines and policies
  • Must be flexible to work beyond normal work hours as required to meet project deadlines

Qualification Requirements

  • Education and Experience. This position is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Cost Controller.
    • A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Accounting is required.
    • 5 or more years of experience in accounting or a similar role is required for this position.
    • Must be detail oriented with strong communication skills.
    • Excellent computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required.
    • Prior SAP experience is preferred.
    • Ability to handle a variety of tasks effectively and efficiently and prioritize multiple projects and requests
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to deal with staff at all levels of the organization
  • Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Cost Controller to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.
    • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
    • Employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
    • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 90 pounds with assistance.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Cost Controller encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    • Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).
    • Must have the ability to carry out duties in varying work environments including wide ranging weather conditions and terrain.
