Job Description

RK&K has an immediate opportunity to hire a new, motivated Roadway Design Engineer preferably with an active Engineer in Training (EIT) certification, for our Transportation group in our Washington, DC office. As a Roadway Design Engineer you will be assisting our Project Engineers and Project Managers on a variety of tasks, including preparation of contract plans, specifications and construction cost estimates on roadway projects.

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Working in a team environment on projects in preparing roadway design documents
  • Designing roadway plans, profiles, typical sections, cross sections and grading
  • Preparing design computations and quantity calculations
  • Designing or preparing concept road plans and alternatives analysis for new transportation systems or retrofits to existing systems
  • Preparing technical design reports on roadway projects and performing feasibility studies
  • Performing field investigations to collect data including field measurements, photographs, sketches, verifying surveys and identifying changes

Required Qualifications:

  • One (1) to five (5) years of experience in transportation/roadway design
  • Experience or willingness to learn Microstation, OpenRoads, Geopak/InRoads
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
  • Passion for client service and teamwork
  • Confidence in written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An E.I.T. certification
  • Understanding of AASHTO guidelines
