Job Description
Firetrace, a subsidiary of Halma plc, and a global manufacturer of life-saving fire suppression devices, has an immediate need for a Project Engineer to help transform our business.  Join us on the journey to being a global player in the fire suppression industry. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a proven history of leading projects in a multi-site manufacturing company.  Be part of a growing cross-functional engineering team tasked with new product development and global expansion.  As we develop new products, this role will be a vital link to ensure successful product launches by eliminating product manufacturability concerns across various locations around the world.  We currently have regional assembly stations in Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, but will be expanding our manufacturing footprint to India and China in the coming year.   Travel to these locations will be required, but this role will be based in Scottsdale, Arizona USA.  Firetrace is separated into cross-functional market segment teams that focus on specific and adjacent markets to uncover new opportunities.  To gain an understanding of how products are used, the initial work assignment will include application engineering support in one of the focused market segments.   The right candidate will help Firetrace reach our purpose where we protect lives and livelihoods by eliminating the impact of fire.

Responsibilities
This role will report to the Firetrace Engineering Manager but have a dotted-line responsibility to the VP of Operations.  As such, coordination between engineering and operations will be a vital part of the success of this role.  The Project Engineer will be leading process improvements in the Scottsdale assembly plant while implementing similar processes at our remote fill stations and new manufacturing facilities.  The ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations while considering the long-term company vision is critical.  In addition, this role will also be expected to manage other projects assigned to support the company strategy.  You will specifically be expected to:
  • Liaise between engineering and operations to ensure processes and procedures align with product requirements.
  • Establish manufacturing processes based on approval and standard requirements such as UL, FM, and LPCB. 
  • Supports release of new product by owning the DFMA and PFMEA process.
  • Lead process improvement, cost reduction/savings and scrap reduction that support manufacturing plant lean and transformation initiatives. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams to improve FPY, process repeatability and compliance to work instructions. 
  • Work multiple projects simultaneously while focusing on the projects that are highest on the corporate priority list.  This will include projects outside of the typical manufacturing engineering function.
  • Evaluate existing equipment and/or systems, looking for methods to improve performance, efficiency, reliability or accuracy and present recommendations for same.
  • Analyze problem areas with existing processes/products; recommend design changes in equipment or product as required to resolve problems.
  • Display Firetrace’s values and behaviors in all interactions with customers and coworkers.
Experience, Skills, and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering
  • 3-D CAD modeling and drawing experience, Solidworks desired
  • 5+ years of professional experience in a manufacturing company
  • 3+ years project management experience, CAPM or PMP certification is a plus
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional project teams
  • Proven experience in problem solving
  • Comfortable presenting ideas to floor personnel, the management team and company board members
  • Detail oriented, with strong oral/written communication skills
  • Relationship building with diverse groups of people at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic plant system design and optimization
  • Experience with Stage Gate product development
  • Experience establishing manufacturing practices in Asia (China or India) is a plus

  • This role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona
