Description

Position Overview:

Coordinates student programs and/or services to assist and/or promote students with disabilities, to assist with recruitment, growth, access, success, retention or extracurricular development of the student.  Review and maintain student records and generate reports for department.  Coordinate the development and/or preparation of informational materials relevant to department.  Recruit or coordinate related programs and events for organization(s), programs, and/or projects. May assist in educational-related activities related to the accreditation process.  Interacts with faculty, staff, leaders, and community members. Develops and manages assigned client relationships in a manner consistent with policies and procedures. May create presentations or marketing materials for the program. May coordinate or supervise program projects or events. May oversee the administrative duties/function of a program. Ensures that all services provided are in compliance with applicable standards and regulations. Makes recommendations regarding process and procedure change. Provides input into budget development. Handles moderately complex issues and problems. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Typically reports to a department head or manager.

 

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Advises students, faculty, staff, and others on processes, procedures, and DSS services.  Develops, monitors, adjusts, and evaluates individual accommodations for students with disabilities. Interprets information from multiple resources (medical, psychological, rehabilitation, etc.) to determine ADA protected reasonable accommodations relative to the student's profile of learning and performance strengths/limitations in effect removing educational barriers due to disability related functional limitations.  Conducts new and returning intakes each semester for students with temporary and permanent disabilities for Residual ACT, placement tests, housing, academic coursework, standardized tests (i.e. OGET, OPTE, etc.) and extracurricular activities.  Assist in coordination of interpreters/CART providers each semester.  Corresponds with faculty and staff regarding students' registered approved accommodations.  Assist in corresponding with building captains regarding approved physical accommodations (i.e. tables/chairs).  Produces and disseminates accommodation letters.  Maintains/manages students' files and database.  Handles non-grievance conflicts/issues due to accommodations.  Makes referrals to on and off-campus services and agencies that assist individuals with disabilities.  Provides educational information/training and works closely with students registered with DSS related to time management, learning strategies, organization, studying techniques, test-taking skills, self-advocacy skills, etc.  Researches and evaluates best practices and trends in postsecondary accessibility.  Prepares statistical reports related to students registered with DSS - weekly,  each semester, and annually.  Co-advises the UCO Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society, Zeta Eta Chapter for students with disabilities. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Level:

Scope & Impact: This position is an intermediate level, independent contributor whose actions may have a significant impact on a department's operations.  This position may also affect operations of multiple work areas.  

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by identifying operational needs and requirements.  May assist with research requirements gathering or other related efforts to develop budgetary requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for applying organizational policies and procedures and/or determining appropriate process to follow.

Reporting Relationships: Generally reports to a manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates functional expertise in a particular domain.  Demonstrates ability to operate independently and without supervision for day to day operations. 

Problem Solving & Judgement: Maintains a working knowledge and policies and procedures, generally acceptable principles and methods.  Resolves day to day operational issues by collecting and interpreting information.  Solutions may include modifying procedures in methods to address new conditions and may incorporate advice and input as needed from supervisor. This role includes broad responsibilities requiring the application of policies to dynamic and complex conditions.  Problems generally require significant analysis and judgement.  Solutions may include adapting existing policies and systems to address unique situations.

Communication & Interaction: Interacts with various levels within or outside the university to provide service, interpret and explain ideas and concepts, as well as resolve issues. 

Title Authority: This level is created by the classification function in Human Resources, based on business need as determined by area leadership and approved by the appropriate Vice President, in accordance with University practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications Required:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in job related field plus 3+ years of equivalent work experience in chosen field or 7+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.

 

Qualifications Preferred:

5 years' experience in related field with 1 year in leadership.
