Job Description

Title: Electrical Technician/Technologist (New Mexico) Updated

Emera Technologies. has an opening for an Electrical Technician or Technologist to assist in the operation, testing, and upgrades of a renewable generation site in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This position will result in enhanced learning and experience in the trending technical fields of solar PV, energy storage and microgrids.

Primary Functions:

  • Prepare daily plans for the testing and maintenance of the power generation site.
  • Organize and maintain testing equipment and working tools.
  • Prioritize directions from multiple stakeholders (operations, engineering, business development)
  • Assist engineering team in the testing of the power system.
  • Use proprietary software tools to change operating settings and conditions for the system resources
  • Participate in equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Implement firmware and hardware upgrades at the site.
  • Lead demonstrations and tours to the microgrid site

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of (1) year of practical experience in factory testing, project commissioning, or field service of systems involving power electronics and energy storage systems.
  • Experience with equipment operating up to 480 VAC and/or 1000 VDC
  • Experience and training in electrical safety including use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout and tagout procedures, arc flash risk and mitigation, use protection components, etc.
  • Practical experience with PV solar systems commissioning and maintenance
  • Basic understanding of energy storage technologies and charging discharging methods.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring drawings, and mechanical layouts
  • Practical knowledge of testing equipment: programmable power supplies, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, microprocessors programming and debugging tools, etc.
  • Understanding of communication platforms and protocols: RS485, CanBus, ModBus, Ethernet, etc.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
