Assistant Director of Community and Inclusion Programs
Position reports to: Director of Equity, Diversity, and Intercultural Programs with a joint report to the TRIO Student Support Services Director
This position is located on the Morris Campus, in Morris, MN.
Purpose of the Position
To coordinate and advance the Office of Equity, Diversity, & Intercultural Programs (EDI) programming and community building through intercultural education and engagement for UMN Morris students, faculty, and staff through one-on-one consultations, student leadership development, and campus wide programs and events. Provide leadership for and coordinate Multi-ethnic Student Program and LGBTQIA2S+ Program related programs and activities, fostering community, inclusion and success for students from historically underserved backgrounds. Coordinate TRIO Student Support Services community engagement and inclusion programming.
Job duties:
Coordinate Multi-ethnic Student Program and EDI programming and leadership development (25%)
- Coordinate and collaborate with other units to organize programs and projects to advance UMN Morris equity, diversity and intercultural programs and build an inclusive and respectful campus community.
- Organize annual events within UMN Morris new student orientation, welcome week, honors and awards, and graduation programs for students from historically underserved populations
- Execute programming in a proactive approach to engage students with current social issues
- Mentor and support EDI affiliated student organizations with leadership skill development and signature campus events
- Organize campus outreach events to support the recruitment and retention of new students
Support LGBTQIA2S+ Programs (25%)
- Support LGBTQIA2S+ identified students and staff the Resource Center for Gender, Women, and Sexuality (RCGWS).
- Provide mentoring and support for student success and persistence; facilitate connections and referrals to campus, community, and broader resources to ensure students’ academic and personal success
- Provide faculty and staff with support and resources for LGBTQIA2S+ identified students’ success
- Supervise peer mentors in staffing the RCGWS, programming, and research
- Serve on the Commission on Women and Gender Equity
Coordinate TRIO Student Support Services community engagement and inclusion programming (25%)
- Support SSS new student welcome, student engagement activities, and graduation celebrations
- Coordinate and enhance SSS students’ college engagement and success through campus collaborations such as the SSS summer housing program and Student Engagement and Events performing arts series participation
- Engage SSS students in EDI programming
- Document student engagement; contribute to project assessment and data-driven improvements
Contribute to Student Life Engagement, Success, and Assessment (25%)
- Morris 1101 - teach a fall semester first year experience course section (1 cr.); work with FYE coordinator to execute a course centered on transition/college success skill building, resource connections, and community building, infusing equity and inclusion concepts to build an early community cohort; serve as cohort student success mentor (Master’s degree required)
- Document student engagement and program impact. Contribute to benchmarking, campus climate assessments, and annual co-curricular student learning assessment. Use assessment data to improve programs and the student experience
- Serve on the Student Life on Call Team to provide support for student questions, concerns, and critical incidents (approximately 2-3 weeks/semester and summer)
- Contribute to policy and procedure discussions and enhancements to better the experiences of students from historically underserved backgrounds
- Contribute to program fiscal management, overseeing and managing related budgets
- Attend a variety of on- and off-campus programs and events to build community across units, support student and staff engagement, and gain knowledge of other units’ work and services
The position is supported in part by US Department of Education funds funded through August 31, 2025; UMN Morris intends to apply for future SSS projects.
