Job Description

Work Hours

  • Availability between 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Mountain Time, Monday - Friday except holidays, is required

Job Description

  • Review already prepared NEPA packages that are submitted by project proponents for BIA decision. Review documents submitted by project applicants to ensure compliance with all applicable law. Work with technical writer to prepare recommendations and associated draft documents to the respective Region to support their review and decision-making.
  • Work with technical writer to prepare original draft NEPA documents and packages on behalf of BIA for direct service tribes. These draft documents and packages would be submitted to the respective Region for their finalization and subsequent decision making.
  • Coordinate closely with the Regions, in coordination with the COR, to understand and share information on individual project review needs. This may include participation in regional permitting team meetings and project-specific meetings with the Regions, applicants, and Tribes.
  • Communicate with applicants, Tribes, other agencies and necessary parties through the review process, in coordination with the BIA.

Remote Work and Travel

  • Eligible for remote work with occasional travel, estimated to be two-three trips per quarter, each lasting three-four business days
  • Familiarity with fieldwork in remote Alaska beneficial for those leading travel
  • The amount of travel cannot be determined at this time, although it is unlikely to be more than two to three trips per quarter
  • It is highly dependent on the number of requests for assistance we get from Direct Service Tribes

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or environmental engineering
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing and environmental compliance
  • Knowledge of NEPA documentation and procedures
  • Must be authorized to work in the United Stated as defined the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
