Overview

As a key member of the clinical team within the Voice and Swallowing Center, a part of the Division of Laryngology within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, this position plays a vital role in the overall management of trach and airway care throughout Norfolk General Hospital.

 

Primarily tasked with inpatient care, this role will work collaboratively with the ENT residents and Laryngology Faculty members to coordinate overall trach and airway management throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

  • As a Navigator for the Laryngology Division, this role will participate on the multi-disciplinary team as an advocate and educator for Laryngology patients.
  • The position will actively participate in the hospital’s airway committee, stepping in to chair committee meetings in the absence of the Division Director.
  • Provides safe, quality and efficient care to patients undergoing trach or airway management at Norfolk General hospital.
  • Serves as an advocate to identify barriers and find resources for needed patient care.
  • Serves as a liaison throughout the Medical School and partner organizations regarding available services from the Laryngology Division.
  • Assists patients and family members pursuing care in the Laryngology Division in understanding their diagnosis, treatment options and available resources.
  • Assists with outreach efforts and screening activities associated with the Center.
  • Coordinates data collection and tracks clinical outcome data for the Division.
  • Facilities needed appointments and support services.
  • Provides services for all age populations.
  • Actively participates in ongoing research trials.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MPA or MSN required. Licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required.  BLS and ACLS Certification preferred.  At least two years of previous surgical practice experience preferred.  Previous experience with trach and airway management, generally obtained through experience in an ENT practice, preferred.

 

Database management and basic spreadsheet knowledge is required. PC proficiency is required as well along with a strong comfort level with EPIC.

 

Ability to think and work independently, insight, excellent organizational skills, astute and accurate patient assessment skills, and the ability to identify and assign priorities are all needed skills.
