The Position

East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) invites qualified applicants to apply for an immediate Senior Software Engineer (Oracle Development DBA) vacancy in the Applications division of the Information Systems Department (ISD). EBMUD is seeking a motivated professional with intermediate experience in Oracle Database Administration (DBA) and structured query language (SQL). This position also includes architecting Oracle database-related integrations and management of application servers.

This is not a remote work only position and is based at EBMUD’s Administration Building located in downtown Oakland, CA. The current long-term telecommute guidelines require ISD employees to telecommute three days per week and work from the office two days per week.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• the ability to write intermediate level SQL queries.

• familiarity with PL/SQL.

• intermediate knowledge of Oracle relational database concepts.

• the ability to provide Oracle database support to application programmers.

• the ability to tune SQL statements.

• strong technical aptitude to learn, evaluate, apply, and master new technologies.

• intermediate ability to script and automate processes using appropriate tools.

• a versatile skillset to design solutions and solve problems at different levels of the technology stack.

• excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both individually and collaboratively.

• good communication skills, both verbal and written.

The Senior Software Engineer monthly salary range starts at $12,076, increasing to $12,680, $13,314, $13,980, and $14,679 after 6, 18, 30, and 42 months, respectively.

Requirements

1. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (related majors such as computer science, information systems, and information technology are preferred).

2. Three years of systems analysis and programming experience developing business applications for computer systems including one year at a level comparable to or higher than the EBMUD class of Software Engineer II. Experience may require demonstrated use and expertise in specific programming languages or IT specialties relevant to the position vacancy.

The Selection Process

1. This is an open-continuous recruitment. Submit a completed EBMUD application and the required supplemental questions responses online at www.ebmud.com by the following cut-off dates: Friday, March 1, 2024, Friday, April 5, 2024, Friday, May 3, 2024, and Friday, June 7, 2024. Only application materials submitted online during the filing period will be accepted.

2. Candidates must achieve a passing score on each test part in order to advance to the next step in the selection process.

3. All qualified applications and supplemental responses will be competitively evaluated. Those candidates receiving a passing score will be invited to take a technical test. The technical test will be scheduled monthly on an as-needed basis.

4. Candidates who pass the technical test will be invited to a panel interview on a date to be determined. Successful candidates will be placed on the hiring list, based on rank, for further consideration to fill the current regular vacancy, as well as others occurring over the next 12 to 24 months.

5. The probation period for this position is 12 months. For those holding civil service status the probation period is 6 months.

6. All employment offers are conditional, pending the results of a Live Scan background screening. All selected finalists must participate in the Live Scan background screening process to remain in consideration for EBMUD employment.
