Job Description
Grateful Girls is seeking Full and Part-time Resident Care Workers for 12-hour shifts to change the lives of urban youth. Our licensed group homes work with girls ages 12-18 who are under supervision through DCF and Wraparound Milwaukee.

Job Summary: Responsible for trauma-informed supervision of the residents.

Provide supervision of the youth placed in Group Homes. Responsible for implementing the daily schedule of activities. Provide group educational activities, recreational activities, follow up individually with youth, serve as a mentor and role model for youth.

Essential job duties:
  • Provide services that reflect the objectives of the treatment model and includes significant attention to client engagement, positive reinforcement, and use of evidence-based best practices for a high-risk, vulnerable youth population.
  • Serve as positive mentor for youth placed in the Group Homes.
  • Interact with clients in a positive and therapeutic manner according to policy, procedure, training and organization’s values
  • Provide active supervision of clients at all times within assigned staffing ratios
  • Facilitate client activities/ daily routines as determined by Program Director.
  • Prepare meals and perform cleaning duties per shift.
  • Provide oversight/support to clients, client families, and other service providers, as needed.
  • Work as a team and maintain clear communication with other staff to ensure that the residents receive seamless care.
  • Maintain and document regular contact with individuals/ agencies outside of the program providing services for/ associated with clients.
  • Observe, assess, and document client activity per agency/ program standards (client logs, incident reports, behavior management logs, database, etc.).
  • Other job-related duties as may be necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position.

Minimum qualifications:
 
Be at least 21 years old and at least 2 years older than the oldest resident
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and meet one of the following qualifications:
  • Have a bachelor's or associate degree from a college or university with a focus on child and youth care work or in a social or behavioral science field.
  • Have at least one year of successful experience working in a recognized child welfare residential setting for the type of
  • population served by the center.
  • Be certified as a child and youth care worker under the standards of the national organization of child and youth care workers
  • association or other department-recognized certifying authority
  • Have completed a supervised traineeship program under Chapter DCF 52sub. (5)(g).

In addition...

A minimum of one year of experience with children of a similar age to the client population.

Ability to display cultural competence by responding respectfully and effectively to people of all cultures, languages, classes, races,

ethnic backgrounds, religions and other diversity factors in a manner that recognizes, affirms and values the worth of clients.

Knowledge and skills to work with population age 12-18

Meet all the employee requirements including references, criminal background check, drug test, etc..


Working knowledge of positive child/youth development; patience and understanding of difficult life situations; the ability to interact with escalating youth and/or parents in a calm and professional manner; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to respond appropriately in crisis situations; perform basic computer functions; uses time efficiently and effectively; ability to multi-task; sensitivity towards cultural, ethnic and disability issues.

Physical Demands: Duties require possible activity while monitoring or interacting with youth in the program. Ability to lift 30 pounds and walk up and down stairs during shift
