Job Description

Instrumentation Technician (1st Shift)

The Instrumentation Technician will apply knowledge of measurement science, electronics, mathematics and physics to support measuring and control instrumentation in our HVAC laboratory test facilities. This position works directly with test technicians and engineers serving as a specialist in installing, removing, troubleshooting and calibrating facility instrumentation.

We are looking for a flexible person who has the ability to solve problems without a lot of supervision. Someone who can apply job skills, commercial technical manuals, creativity and ingenuity in a wide-range of moderately complex tasks while ensuring laboratory policies and procedures are followed. Good judgement, integrity, and self-motivation are essential.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Instrumentation, Electro-Mechanical, HVAC or similar field.
  • Minimum three years of calibration and instrumentation experience some of which can be offset with formal training.
  • Background in instrumentation support preferred.
  • Able to perform general math and algebra functions and understand basic statistics.
  • Must possess good written and oral communication skills.
  • PLC programming experience preferred.
  • Intermediate ability to troubleshoot and optimize precision equipment.
  • Intermediate computer skills - proficient in use of MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems based on ISO 9001, ISO 17025 or ANSI Z540.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must be self-motivated, work as a team player, and follow written procedures.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot test measurement and diagnostic equipment in the following disciplines -- dimensional, electrical, mass, mechanical, and temperature.
  • Document the process -- procedure writing
  • Perform work in accordance with approved equipment calibration, maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Utilize technical manuals and procedures to accomplish complex tasks.
  • Perform installation/modification of measuring and control equipment on test facilities.
  • Provide technical assistance to team members on instrumentation related issues.
  • Troubleshoot and repair instrument systems.
  • Identify instrumentation out-of-tolerance conditions and perform corrective actions using custom LabView software, correction factors, component replacement, or other physical/software adjustments.
  • Prepare calibration reports and certificates.
  • Provide thorough documentation of all repair, calibration and maintenance actions.
  • Work with internal customers and technical center personnel to coordinate facility maintenance downtime.
  • Comply with company policies, procedures and standards.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance
  • Occasional standing and bending are required

Working Environment

  • Works primarily in a testing laboratory environment
  • Travel may be required to other domestic locations
