As a Principal Product Design Engineer, you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work closely with both internal teams and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, design, execution and test. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.
You will demonstrate a strong working knowledge of mechanical systems, with expertise in systems integration; the desire to learn from new challenges and the problem solving and communication skills to work within a highly interactive and experienced team. Candidates must show a hands-on passion for their work and be able to communicate their ideas and concepts both verbally and visually. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to integrate feedback and to respond quickly to changing contexts and work environments.
The Role:
Design and architect world-class hardware
Broad cross-functional engineering influence with an emphasis on delighting customers with innovation in the consumer electronics space
Complete technical ownership for the programs
Lead Architecture/Design reviews
Lead all aspects of technology readiness including manufacturability
Help build robust methodology and processes to deliver technology to products
Research into materials and component technologies to scope development opportunities
Test failure analysis and solution validation to complete successful product development
Support positive team interactions to accomplish program objectives
Provide cross-functional program integration support to ensure team success
Apply technical expertise to problem solving throughout product lifecycle
Mentor junior engineers in good product design practice
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
10+ years experience, consumer/handheld product development
5+ years of experience in product validation (Shock/Drop, Cycle Testing, Environmental Testing)
Consumer products experience - have completed at least two product life cycles
Cross-functional experience in Industrial Design, Hardware, Reliability, and Materials
Experience with DFx (Design for cost, test, manufacturing)
Experience with Wireless consumer electronic devices
Factory experience
Experience with CAD tools such as CreO
Experience with Technical document writing using Visio, Word, Excel, and / or PowerPoint
Experience with Revision and Document control
Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience working as a Technical Lead
